The 17 fingerstyle "acoustic reflections" on Scott Balsai's first solo recording, Waiting for
the Sun, glimmer with the rich, hypnotic pulse of a sun-dappled stream. Inspired by outdoor
excursions through the mountains and along the rivers of Idaho, Balsai's bright, rippling
notes ring with the sparkling clarity, tonal balance, and sustain that fingerstylists love
in our mahogany guitars.
Born and raised in Bethlehem, PA, Balsai soaked up Pennsylvania's lively acoustic folk
scene, where such "New Folk" standouts as John Gorka cut their teeth. Balsai says he
couldn't help but learn to play guitar living there. Waiting for the Sun, in his words,
"comes straight from the heart, and represents a softer, more peaceful side of my soul."
He moved to Pocatello, in southeastern Idaho, in 1981, where he teaches high school students.
When he's not in the classroom, he likes to rouse his muse in Idaho's wonderful skiing,
hiking, and fishing country.
Balsai recorded his album by blending a Fishman Acoustic Matrix Natural pickup with an
external microphone. "The combination of these two channels resulted in a superb sound!"
he said. "I believe that most of the music on this CD would not exist if it were not for
the inspiring sound of my Taylor 512."
