Tim Dabbs' topical story-songs and tender ballads draw from the musical stylings of Gordon Lightfoot, Harry Chapin, and John Denver. His powerful tenor tremelo invokes
Denver's spirit, and invests his music with a narrative folk authority. One can imagine Dabbs muscular warble wafting through the country air in an era before microphones.
His songs are literally a down-to-earth journey; his heady lyrics and melodic fingerstyle guitar accompaniment convey his harmony with life as he waxes nostalgic about
sailing in upstate New York; basks in the solitude of an abandoned lighthouse on Lake Champlain; meditates on the Pennsylvania highways that both separate and connect him
with his future wife; and contemplates ancient life while visiting the mystical Anasazi ruins at Mesa Verde. "The Day the Rumors Came True", his grim musical account of the
famous Johnstown, Pennsylvania flood of 1889, was inducted into the archives of the National Flood Monument, and remains one of Dabbs' most requested songs on the Midwest circuit.
His wife Amy, an accomplished musician, adds a traditional Celtic flavor to Juniper Light with her flute and piccolo work. She also sings, and plays piano, percussion, and
the guitar. The two often record and perform together.
Dabbs has opened for such contemporary folk artists as David Mallet, Tom May, Erica Wheeler, and Michael McNevin; and contributed to tribute projects for both Gordon
Lightfoot and John Denver.
"A songwriting talent to watch."
Dirty Linen Magazine
"Tim is a very talented songwriter in the tradition of Stan Rodgers and Gordon Lightfoot, and people who write about real events and real places."
Tom May,
Host/Producer of National Public Radio's River City Folk
