Singer-songwriter James Grey draws deeply both from his heartland roots and the depths of his own personal
heartland to craft his melodic acoustic folk-rock tunes. Based in Southern California, Grey has been making
music for over two decades, has gigged in Nashville and along both coasts, and attracted the ears of such artists
as Chicago, Kenny Rankin, Gladys Knight and Go West. His latest ep release, Windows, exposes Grey's subtle shades,
from pensive to rollicking, and features the studio talents of producer/bassist Taras Prodaniuk (Dwight Yoakum, Pete
Anderson) and some of LA's leading sessioneers.
Grey says music has always helped him create order in the world, and one can hear in his lyrics the deep yearning to
find a sense of place amid change. In "Won't Go Back Home," Grey's sensitive vocal acknowledges the comforting but
illusory familiarity of hometown roots, and that memories carry more permanence than reality. In the friendly acoustic
jangle of "Here I Am," Grey's path to his own heart similarly retraces a familiar route. Love is on the line in the
Mellancamp-esque rocker "Nothing But Love," and Grey tries his best to keep it alive. Windows glows warmly with honesty,
hope, and a simple sweetness that refreshingly come straight from the heart.
"No 'grey' area here - this is a promising artist."
