WARNING: This album contains addictive pop ingredients that may cause repeated listening. Los Angeles pop-rockers Jenna Music forge a compelling sound with layers of
textured guitar lines, tight, snappy rhythms and the impassioned lyrics/vocals of singer-songwriter and band namesake, Jenna. On many tracks, Jenna's lyrics poetically
chronicle the pivotal "moments of truth" that come to define relationships, and the deep, conflicting feelings that often roil love's waters. Jenna invests her tunes with
confessional ruminations that carry a bedroom journal's sense of naked revelation. The refined rawness of her voice - suggestive of Sheryl Crow - rides sensually atop shifting
tempos, surging, floating, and cascading as she plumbs love's hard truths and explores its potential for exhilaration, pain, fear, desire and growth.
"My inspiration to write songs comes from unraveling mysteries about people," explains Jenna. In "If It's Love", love is a "teeter-totter", a "tug of war" plagued by
doubt and disconnection; "Reality Hurts" confronts the tangle of getting in too deep with the wrong person; "Moving Like Water" embraces uncertainty. Her passionate grasp
of life experiences energizes her music, and resonates strongly with young adults ("Reality Hurts" was featured on the WB TV drama "Dawson's Creek", and "If It's Love" was
heard in a recent episode of Fox's "Time of Your Life").
In March of 1999, Jenna Music was selected from more than 1,000 West Coast bands to perform in the Jim Beam Unsigned Band Contest. The band frequents the L.A. club circuit,
has toured nationally, and during the 1999 winter NAMM show, played a rousing set at the Taylor booth.
"The CD's nine tracks are frequently so personal, you feel like [Jenna]'s revealing her innermost desires, fears, hopes, and dreams. The effect, especially when
coupled [with] the rousing anthemlike melodies, is gloriously uplifting, even when the stories make you want to cry."
Backstage Pass
"Jenna has a great pop/rock voice and strong original tunes."
Tolucan Times
"Jenna Music plays with gobs of energy, with drum flourishes and guitars licks popped in at exactly the right moment. It's amazing to see and remarkable how
they don't seem capable of letting you down. Their vocal harmonies remind me of all the great rock & roll harmony bands of the '60s and '70s."
