Bruce Michael Kean
Bruce Michael Kean's love affair with music started early in life. Originally a drummer, Kean cut his teeth in rock-and-roll and jazz bands in the Northeast while studying the music he loved best (Blue Note-era Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and Buddy Rich). After switching to guitar and realizing that singing and songwriting were his passions, Bruce steeped himself in the work of such musician-composers as George Gershwin, Neil Diamond, The Beatles, Duke Ellington, Paul Simon, Jim Croce, Harold Arlen and Cole Porter.

The Real Story is the fruit of Kean's collaboration with Emmy-award-winning composer Roger Tallman. Through each of the album's 11 originals and one cover ("Smile", written by Charlie Chaplin), Kean shifts smoothly through jazz, R&B, country, blues and rock idioms, etching an indelible path with colorful lyrics, vivid characters, and memorable melodies. Kean performs both solo and fronting a band, playing about 175 shows a year.

"During the recording of … The Real Story, the band was touched again by Bruce's songs. They are always honest and heartfelt. In fact, more than once, while we were running down a number, we were literally stopped in our tracks by a lyric — not something you see too often when dealing with NY studio pros… I'm proud to have my name on his CD."

— Larry Saltzman, guitarist

"Sincere, thoughtful, and soulful. A man with a story to tell and a heart that sings with hope and purpose."

— Jeff Mironov
