Bryan Kelley
Bryan Kelley's debut effort is a well-stirred tonic of "modern folk-rock" that is both sensitive and serrate. With a poet's pensive ear, he shapes his songs with lucid, confessional lyrics, an often intimate vocal style, and deft studio production that blends gritty alterna-pop effects with traditional elements like fiddle, squeezebox, mandolin and organ. Kelley exhibits a broad emotional range, and charts a graceful course through such themes as fear, hope, solitude and peace. From the wistful pangs of new love ("Angels") into the murky waters of addiction ("Charming the Gods"), Kelley's voice is fresh and luminous. He was one of Taylor's "artist showcase" performers at the 1999 Folk Alliance Conference in Albuquerque.

"Charming you, too. L.A. singer-songwriter [Bryan] Kelley's got a fine voice and a way with a pop tune, whether crooning such intimate, folky numbers as "Fear" or letting loose on rockers like 'She Crawls'. Assisted by a gifted batch of players (contributing mandolin, squeezebox, congas and more), Kelley limns a vital, varied soundscape, and producer-organist Chris Fuhrman uses filters and other devices on the vocal tracks to add atmosphere. The Gods are smiling."
