On his 1996 CD, Jazz and Country, widely respected guitarist Jim Nichols matched his technical prowess with the versatility and sense of balance of a
master juggler. In the "Jump Street" column of the April '97 issue of Acoustic Guitar magazine, Dylan Schorer categorized Nichols as "a guitarist who
can seemingly do it all." Schorer cited the "sophisticated harmonies and finesse" of Nichols' jazz-guitar arrangements, and solos that evoke both Wes
Montgomery and John Coltrane; his deft nylon-string work on classical pieces; his "funky counterpoint and poppin' Telecaster licks"; and the "common
thread" of Chet Atkins' influence tying it all together. That's a lot of ground to cover as well as Nichols does.
For the last several years, Nichols and his wife, Morning Nichols - a talented vocalist who has recorded several excellent albums with him - have
performed at the Taylor booth at the Winter NAMM show, where Nichols never fails to mesmerize with a set that always seems too brief.
