Mary Sue Twohy
On her debut recording, Mary Sue Twohy sets a dozen delicate butterflies to flight. Her silky soprano flutters gently over sparkling acoustic rhythms, informed by the spiritual air both of her Irish heritage and traditional folk consciousness, and inspired by Nanci Griffith. You can hear Twohy discovering her voice, sculpting her lyrics, giving her ballads a warm intimate shimmer.

Based in Maryland, Twohy plays an active leadership role in the Takoma Park Folk Festival. She has opened for Ellis Paul and Michael Jerling, shared the stage with the Kennedys, and recently was "approved" as a new Indiegrrl for Indiegrrl.com. Her music has also caught the ear of the Washington Post.Twohy is a regular on the local coffeehouse circuit and has received airplay on numerous singer-songwriter formatted radio programs. She's currently gearing up for a full-time central East Coast tour through the spring and summer of 2000.

"Twohy's singing isn't just inherently good. It's unquestionably good - a sound for sore ears… Training Butterflies showcases Twohy's talent as a singer-songwriter in a series of attractive and uncluttered settings that allow her voice to cast an intimate glow…"
