Lucy Webster
You can hear the Honey throughout Lucy Webster's latest recording, In My Opinion. Honey, Webster's blonde 615, gives a full voice to the album's 14 tracks, and according to the Grand Rapids-based singer-songwriter, "made it sound like I had a bass player playing along when I didn't."

Webster's contemporary folk has drawn comparisons to early Joni Mitchell for her vocal phrasing, alternate tunings, and deeply personal lyrics. Her lithe rhythms and emotional translucence are a red carpet from her soul to her listeners, as she interprets with unflinching honesty the complex emotional ebb and flow of life: the swirl of trepidation and desire as romance sneaks through the back door of friendship ("Seduction"); acquiescing to the promise of love ("I Am Falling Too"); tripping over the past and missing the possibilities of the moment ("Cry"); shedding pretenses in an initial encounter ("Be Yourself"); succumbing to passion's undertow when logic says stay out of the water ("Again"); and the simple pleasures of drinking in a sunset with one's love ("Vermilion Sky") or a wondrously gazing at a star-speckled sky on a childhood camping trip ("Under the Stars"). In My Opinion taps into life's familiar struggles and shows poetically that we're all under the same sky.

"Webster croons, cajoles, and revels in the swirling sound of her original, strongly neo-folk-inflected music. Her clear, strong voice penetrates without grating or preachiness…and the flow of her lyrics move in and around the room, dropping images of hope, love, pain, suspicion…"

— Bruce Madden,
On the Town

"It was standing room only for Lucy Webster's show on Thursday as she wove her magical vocals and folk guitar stylings. With her emotionally distinctive melodies and unique chord progressions, people were stopping their dining to watch and listen to her. Her songs have rhythms that step lively, making your feet tap and head bob, or soft, gentle caresses that float you softly away."
