Model 410

BUTTERFLY-FREE
After a few months of searching, I finally settled on your 410 as my first true guitar investment. Being 19 and in college, this was the first time I had ever spent that kind of money on anything other than a car. Whenever I made a purchase of any magnitude in the past, I usually had doubts or a little nagging butterfly in my stomach that I had made some sort of mistake…not so with this guitar. I am confident that I found the perfect guitar, and I got a lot more guitar than I thought possible for the price. My original search had me focusing mainly on [other brand] and I had almost settled on one of their low-end dreadnoughts. A salesman named Gary at the Guitar Gallery in Amherst, NH, was the first to introduce me to Taylors (I had, of course, heard of you; also Dave Matthews, my inspiration, has a couple of Taylors). Gary was absolutely awesome and did side-by-side comparisons of quite a few models. I found that the only way I could get the same sound quality and playability in (the other brand) was to spend twice as much money, and even then the [other brand]'s only true edge was in the bass tones.

I truly feel spoiled by this 410 -- I cannot say enough about it. My parents were also excited to see my enthusiasm for this guitar and they wanted to make a contribution as well. My mother has purchased gold Grover tuners for a little aesthetic upgrade. Thank you very much from an incredibly excited new Taylor owner!

THE NEVERENDING HONEYMOON
I have had the pleasure of owning two Taylor guitars for the past two years, and I needed to let you know we are still on our honeymoon. I love my Taylors, and would part with all of my possessions before I would consider letting either of them out of my sight. It was always my dream to own a guitar of exceptional quality, and now I own two. My Taylor 410 and 450 are the most beautiful-sounding guitars I have ever owned, and they feel like an extension of myself whenever I play them.

You guys have done something that I thought was impossible, until I tried my first Taylor. You have managed to [achieve a] balance of quality and quantity, which I thought no one could do. I have never said this about any other guitar, but I have never met a Taylor Guitar I didn't immediately fall in love with.

I also want to say that I bought my guitar at Music Unlimited, of Hanover, Massachusetts, and they have always been there if I had any questions. I have found that all the guitar stores that I go into that carry Taylor guitars have one thing in common: they let your guitars do the talking, and, boy, do they have a lot to say. I could kiss the luthier who made my guitars; that person has restored my musical soul. Thanks ever so much. P.S. I lied I have 3 Taylors I have a Baby which goes everywhere I go.

THE EDGE OF ADDICTION
I read the [Summer '99] issue of Wood&Steel, featuring the new 25th Anniversary models. First, let me say that I read those newsletters, front to back, as soon as I can, and am yet to be disappointed in any edition. Kudos. Also, let me interject that after reading them at work, I go home, pull out one of my four Taylors (410-K, 655, 814-CE, and Baby), and reacquaint myself with my love affair, hoping the urge to purchase your latest cutting-edge model will fade. So far, it's worked. Until I saw the Anniversary models.

I know their number is terribly limited, and, judging from the craftsmanship that goes into each of them, and the rest of your guitars, I can see why there is a limit. I had to laugh at the recent letter in Wood&Steel, about Taylor Acquisition Syndrome. Tone and playability should be controlled by the government, for they are very, very addictive. Congratulations to all at Taylor for 25 years of splendid, and much-appreciated work.

DOING FINE, OVERALLS
Attached is a picture of our acoustic trio, the Overalls. We specialize in rich harmonies, strong melodies, and words that make you sit up and listen. Jilda [Watson] and I are songwriters from Empire, Alabama, and Steve Norris, who also writes, is from Helena, Alabama. The three of us had so much fun pickin' and grinnin' at Steve's brother's beach house, performing together was just a natural progression.

To say that the Overalls love Taylor Guitars is an understatement. As you can tell from the photo, we all have Taylors, including our niece, Samantha Phillips, who is shown holding her Baby Taylor. I have an 810, Steve a 710, and Jilda a 415. I also have a 410 that I couldn't seem to turn loose of when I bought the 810. Sam is not an "Overall" yet, but if she keeps practicing, she will soon be.

Jilda and I played several dates in Ireland in May, and we saw Dan Crary there; he was fabulous. Every time we see him, he always plugs your guitars. Anyway, a self-titled Overalls CD is being recorded and should be released in the fall. In the meantime, we have a website at (www.TheOveralls.com).

A TOOL OF MIRACLES
I love your magazine ad about the player who walks into a music shop [looking] for strings and walks out with a brand new Taylor. That is not how it happened for me. I was shopping for one of those lower-end, so-called "other brands", and walked out with a broken heart. Why? Because I "accidentally" played a Taylor 410, fell deeply in love, and determined that it was beyond my financial grasp. I told my husband, "The Taylor is worth waiting for," and I began to plan my money-saving strategy.

Our family's best friend (and fellow musician), Beth Johnson, was with us when I discovered the 410. She, my husband, his family, and a few other friends pooled their resources and surprised me with my dream guitar for my 40th birthday! The following month, our beloved, generous friend, Beth, tragically passed away. A few days later, I composed a song for Beth's memorial, which I performed on my Taylor as a tribute to her life.

The enclosed photo was taken just minutes after I was presented with my Taylor. Although I've played, composed, and performed on a semi-professional level for more than 25 years, my new Taylor has awakened and motivated a fresh phase of creative expression in me, serving as a tool of miracles beneath my fingers. I remain inspired and challenged to the edge of excellence. I'm honored to be among the decided minority of female Taylor guitar owners. Ladies, you don't know what you're missing!

TEXAS INSTRUMENT
Greetings from Texas! Really enjoy this web site. It's the first thing I check out when I'm online, usually with my Taylor 410 in hand, just picking a little and reading e-mail. While I'm here, let me say how much I have enjoyed my Taylor! It is the best-sounding guitar I have ever owned, and that includes a long list of major brand names. Keep up the good work and quality product line!

TAYLOR VERSUS TUITION
I recently purchased my first Taylor guitar, a 1995 model 410. I just wanted you to know how incredibly pleased I am with the sound it gives me. Now, all of my friends here at college (University of Maine at Farmington) adore my guitar, and are thinking of making a purchase of their own.
