Model K22

K22 FOR TWO
When I visited my wife's family, I discovered that her father collected guitars. Although he had over 15 different guitars (all collectors items) I found myself interested only in playing his Taylor. When we would come to visit them, they would make jokes about whether I came to visit them or the Taylor. When my wife and I got married about two months ago, her father surprised me by giving me a Taylor K22 for my wedding gift. I can't explain what a joy it was to receive not only a Taylor guitar I had desired for so long, but what I believe to be the most beautiful piece. I will cherish this gift as long as I live. Thank you for creating such a gorgeous piece of art.

DAYS OF FUTURE PASTELS
I love my 1989 K22 "lefty", and I'm sending a pastel image of it as a thank-you note. I met Bob Taylor at an Anaheim NAMM show, where he suggested the 514c as a compliment to my K22. I've also successfully escorted my wife through your factory tour. A cover-to-cover Wood&Steel reader, I might even be considered a bona fide Taylor groupie (I am going to be 46 in a week or so).

In constructing a nifty website (www.willrichards.com), I've been collecting images to post. "Taylorpastel" will grace the site as a link to my guitar collection. If anyone browsing my site finds it "familiar", it's because Star Trek has used my work on the Next Generation and Voyager series, along with the Insurrection movie (a great line on the resume).

GUITAR, CONSERVATORY
Having visited San Diego many times (my brother is a policeman in your fair city), I thought you might like to see what our conservatory looks like. You might make better guitars, but we make better conservatories. Anyway, after my recent guitar lesson at Podium Music in Minneapolis, I strolled next door, got a chocolate hazelnut coffee, and sat down to read and enjoy the Summer ['99] issue of Wood&Steel. Thanks for another fun and informative periodical.

I just acquired my fourth Taylor since 1998, when I started taking lessons at Podium. I began with the K-22, which is sounding better and better with age and playing. It is so lovely to look at that at first, I must confess, I was almost afraid to play it. So, I bought a Baby Taylor to "drag around" with me to lessons. For travel, and to leave on the kitchen table.

Then, I indulged my love of 12-strings and bought the 355 (unable to afford a 555 or an 855, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the 355 sounded very sweet, and was in my price range). My latest acquisition is an 812-C, which I fell in love with while attending Pat Kirtley's workshop at Water Music, in Stillwater, Minnesota. I need your latest catalog, so I can dream about my next Taylor.

My guitar teacher, John Franzen, asked all his students to give him a photo of themselves with their guitars, for the wall of his studio. Enclosed are two photos I took, one of the Como Conservatory and one of me with my 355. Thanks again for the Taylor workshops, for Wood&Steel, and, of course, for the wonderful guitars.

TAYLOR TAG TEAM
Recently, my girlfriend and I were fortunate enough to attend a benefit concert called "Old Friends" at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The concert featured Guy Clark, Vince Gill, Nanci Griffth, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell in an acoustic guitar "tag team" event, as Clark described it. Taylor was well-represented, with Vince Gill playing a 912-C and Nanci playing her blue custom 614-CE, as I recall. The show was unforgettable and the Taylors sounded great. I have a K-22-C, an 810, a 312-CE and a Baby-M, so I always keep an eye out for Taylor guitars.

Your new web site is great and I continue enjoy Wood&Steel. Keep up the good work.

KOA TEARS HIM UP
Please send me a catalog. I am especially interested in the K-22 koa model. I played one at the Guitar Center and the sound made my eyes tear. The fretboard was made for my hand!
