Website FAQs
The high volume of traffic on the Taylor Guitars website generates numerous questions about its use. Now you have somewhere to check for answers before contacting us or troubleshooting on your own.

I downloaded the Taylor Screensaver for Macintosh, and sometimes when the screensaver runs I get a message saying that the Flash Player does not have enough memory. How can I give more memory to the Flash player to correct this problem?
A small percentage of users have reported this problem with the Taylor Screensaver for Mac -- It may be related to other programs that are running on your Macintosh, but we are investigating the problem and will post any additional information to this FAQs page when it becomes available.

Is it okay with you guys if I download images of my Taylor models from your website?
The short answer is "yes", but with certain restrictions. For the most comprehensive answer, see the "Legal Information" page elsewhere in this "Community" section of the website.

I downloaded your Screen Saver and got a message saying that file "Inst9755.exe" was infected with the "PWSteal.Trojan" virus. Because I scan my computer once a week, I wondered if the ".exe" file was part of the downloaded Screen Saver? The Screen Saver file itself was declared free from viruses before I downloaded it; the message only appeared when I started to load it. I could not find the "Inst9755.exe" file as a separate entity on my computer.
We're very sorry that your attempt to download our Screen Saver unnecessarily generated a "virus" message that caused you some concern. In researching reports from several customers who detected a "virus" in the PC version of the Taylor Screen Saver, we found the following bulletin on Symantec's Web site: "Norton AntiVirus definitions dated 12/27/1999 incorrectly identified some Shockwave programs as containing PWSteal.Trojan. This false positive has been corrected in the latest definitions." This excerpt is from: www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/pwsteal.trojan.html.

I have Quicktime 4.0, but I can't get the 25th Anniversary guitars to "rotate". The screen just goes blank when I click on continue.
We suggest that you re-install your Quicktime, which should solve the problem.

The last three times I logged onto the Taylor website to look at the different models [Models page], when I tried to go to the Koa Series, the page would load, then my computer would freeze. I have to do a control-alt-delete, and Windows comes up, and I close Netscape. I have a PC running the latest version of Netscape. Just wanted you to know something is up. I can go to all the other pages on your web site, but when I click on the Koa models, the page loads and then freezes.
We tested the Koa Models pages and found nothing wrong with them. It's possible that you have a corrupt file for the Koa page, and when you return to that particular page, you are loading a "cached" version of a corrupt file that causes the crash. We recommend that you clear out your cache on your web browser, then re-start Netscape and see if you continue to have that problem.

I visit your website frequently, but I notice that when I access it from a friend's computer, it looks "different" somehow. For example, on my computer the ends of some words on the "Discover the Indies" page are cut off, while on his they look just fine. What's the skinny?
More than likely, its the difference in browsers. Internet Explorer and Netscape display fonts differently. Many people have their browsers set to different sizes of fonts, from small to large, and this affects how the words break. Frequently, any number of people are viewing the same content in very different ways.

Just thought you folks would like to be made aware of a continuing problem. Maybe it's just me, but whenever I hit your website, many of the photographs look "out of whack". They appear to be banded — portions are blacked out or pixelized, or the tops are at the bottoms and vice versa. Otherwise, your page is one of my favorites. As a Taylor owner (655), I look forward to finding out the latest about Taylor (and, of course, drooling a lot). I, too, suffer from T.A.S. [Taylor Acquisition Syndrome], and I always enjoy identifying the guitars various artists play on various TV programs.
At first glance, the problems you are experiencing would seem to be the result of a "configuration" issue on your end — in other words, the browser you're running, the operating system you're running on your computer, and what bit-depth your monitor is set to. Our website developer suggests that you first try clearing out the "cache" on your browser. Then, be sure your display settings are set to display 24-bit color, or better (you might not be running at a bit- depth that your computer can handle, which could result in blacked out or pixelized images). It's mostly a matter of what you're using to view the Internet. If these basic steps do not fix the problem, then forward the browser, operating system, and bit-depth information to webmaster@taylorguitars.com. That will give us a better idea of what the problem is.

I love your website — it's the most informative and attractive guitar site I've seen yet, and I try to visit them all. However, I occasionally have trouble downloading the Tech-Sheets, even after following the instructions provided on that page. What happens is, I'll click on one of the sheets, and it'll ask me if I want to "save" or "open" the document. If I choose "open", it gives me a choice of applications. When I choose my preferred application, I get an "error" message and it shuts me down.
Assuming that you correctly followed the instructions and downloaded Adobe Acrobat (which is required to read .PDF files such as those on our Tech-Sheets page), our webmaster says that you probably are experiencing a "random anomaly" that would be difficult to pinpoint. In layman's terms, that means it could be one or more of a gazillion little things. Unfortunately, it is just the nature of PDF files (and the programs that read them) that the occasional, annoying glitch will pop up to put a kink in your otherwise enjoyable website experience.

The good news is that, frequently, the problem goes away as quickly and mysteriously as it appeared. We in the Taylor PR Department know this to be true, because one day even we had a sudden problem opening a couple of those website Tech-Sheets, and the next time we tried, they opened with ease.

I just bought a used 1996 model 610. I am a huge [other brand] fan, but after seeing and playing this guitar I am now a believer. This is the best-playing guitar I've ever played. You have the right ideas. Now, how can I get copies of your Tech-Sheets? I have WebTV but no computer, so I cannot download from your website to view them. I am interested in the Tech-Sheets on "stringing guitars" and "humidity". P.S. I bought my 610 at C.A. House Music, in St Clairsville, Ohio. They do a great presentation of your guitars.
Well, not having a computer does pose a problem if you want to download something from the Internet! But here's an old-fashioned solution: we can send you "old-fashioned" printed versions of those Tech-Sheets, like the ones we routinely sent out before we had them on our website. "Your Tech is in the mail."

Is there some way I can download the Tech-Sheets as .PDF files, so that I can print them out later? I'm having a lot of problems printing multiple Tech-Sheets with Adobe. (P.S. I am the very satisfied owner of a Taylor 915-M!)
Sure. If you right-click the link to the Tech-Sheet, you can choose "Save Target As" (Internet Explorer) or "Save Location As" (Netscape Navigator). This will give you the file "Save As" dialogue box that allows you to specify the intended directory for the .PDF file.
