Editor's Pick Award
The craftsmanship and factory setup are impeccable. How Taylor manages to make each and every instrument feel so consistently spot-on across its many designs is a modern mystery.
It is a groundbreaking guitar that’s created from sustainably sourced urban wood that was harvested from end-of-life trees from parks and roadways in California. The GT Urban Ash has a compact body that was designed to create a strong, resonant sound.
Platinum Award
But you’re probably wondering what “Urban Ash” sounds like! Well, it’s reminiscent of good mahogany that radiates a crisp top end and a taut bass, but its sonic strength is that it dutifully serves up a warm, sweetened midrange with a clear, bell-like ring.
Editor's Pick
The GT is very responsive to the player’s touch, easily steering through softer and louder passages while maintaining consistently sweet and focused tone.
The instrument’s relatively large body produced respectable volume, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the guitar to players looking for a single guitar to cover many styles.
Taylor has managed to cut costs while preserving the quality you’d expect from a premium American-made instrument—and added a new voice to its guitar choir along the way.

Project: I Know What Love Is

A philanthropic collaboration between Taylor Guitars and 54 musical artists including Zac Brown, Jason Mraz and KT Tunstall, “I Know What Love Is” was written by Good Old War’s Keith Goodwin to support music industry employees affected by COVID-19 through the GRAMMY MusiCares Foundation. The original song, co-produced by Taylor’s own Jay Parkin and Gabriel O’Brien, premieres at NAMM’s Believe in Music Week on January 21.

Every guitar player needs a great acoustic guitar – or several – in their collection. Finding the right acoustic guitar for you can be a daunting process even for the most seasoned player. If you are new to shopping for guitars, then it is even more critical that you learn all you can before you make your first purchase. If your first acoustic guitar is not the appropriate choice for you, then it can dramatically reduce the enjoyment you will get out of your instrument. If you are a new guitar player, the wrong guitar can be downright discouraging. You want a guitar that fits you, is effortless to play, and has the rich, beautiful tone you love to make it the instrument you dream of playing hour after hour.
