Bob talks about producing ebony knife handles for Buck Knives and reflects on the connection between a quality knife and a quality guitar.

The Craft

Often a simple guitar question isn’t quite so simple. But the answer is usually a lot more interesting.

DEPARTMENTS

Ask Bob

Stump wood, guitar weight differences, teak as a tonewood, why we don’t torrefy koa tops, and more.

A closer look at the history of wood selection for guitars and how things have changed.

Taylor Notes

    Rosewood and CITES

In August, CITES voted to exempt rosewood musical instruments from requiring CITES permits. Taylor’s Scott Paul was there, and explains what it means for instrument makers and owners.

    Howdy, Partner

Resident guitar design guru Andy Powers is joining Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug as an ownership partner.

Ebony Project Update: Stella Falone Kitchenware

In Cameroon, our desire to find other socially responsible uses for ebony inspired Bob Taylor to develop a line of kitchenware products, starting with beautiful cutting boards.

    Fall Refresh

We’ve made some stylish updates to the Taylor line: a satin sunburst top for the 100 Series; an all-black 12-string in our 200 Deluxe Series; an all-koa Baby Taylor; and a walnut Big Baby.

Soundings

Flagship Romance charts their own course; Robert Arthur’s picking party; Taylor sponsors Americanafest in Nashville; the band America celebrates 50 years of music; and Latin artist Mon Laferte on tour.

TaylorWare

Our line of Taylor guitar accessories features premium guitar straps, guitar care products, and plenty more.

What is Wood&Steel?

Wood&Steel began as a desire of Taylor co-founders Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug to create an informative communication channel between the company and the people who buy our guitars. Since its summer 1994 debut, our quarterly “owners newsletter” has evolved from its grassroots beginnings into a robust publication that covers all things Taylor, taking readers inside the Taylor factory for the inside scoop on our latest guitar developments and out into the world to connect with Taylor players, dealers and others who make up the vibrant, extended Taylor community. From stories about sourcing wood to guitar care tips to Q&A’s with Bob, we strive to share our passion for making and playing great guitars and to chronicle yours.
