With commentary and guidance from Taylor factory pros, the Where Do I Start series will help you find the right guitar according to price, sound, and playing style.

I am in guitar shops all the time talking to beginner guitar players all the way to season veterans and one thing that I hear from them and I also ask myself is, “Why does that guitar cost so much money? “What do I get for that much money?”

So right now we are going to talk about, what do you get and where do you start for around $3,000.00 - $4,000.00.

In the $3,000.00 - $4,000.00 range when you walk into a guitar shop, you have a ton of options. Now in the Taylor line, you have a wide range of Solid Wood choices and a variety of premium aesthetic appointments like pickguard choices, binding options, different inlays and so on.

Now, I am going to show you a few guitars in the Taylor line between $3,000.00 and $4,000.00.

So, the guitar I am holding here is a Taylor 612ce 12-Fret. This guitar has Solid Maple back and sides with a Hand Rubbed Brown Sugar Stain finish. The top is a Torrified Sitka Spruce top and with its 12-Fret design, it is a really comfortable-playing guitar that you can have fun for hours on end.

Now let us talk about aesthetic options. This guitar is a prime example. This is a 716ce, notice the beautiful Florentine cutaway it has got a weathered brown pickguard and a beautiful herringbone purfling. This guitar has Solid Rosewood back and sides and a Spruce top. It makes for great volume for those big bold strummers, the GS 716ce.

For those of you who love the flagship 814ce, the one right here is going to have you stoked. This is the 814ce Deluxe. This has Adirondack bracing, it has a Solid Spruce top. It has got Solid Rosewood back and sides, gotoh 510 tuners and look at this beauty right here, the radius armrest, perfect contour for you to get your arm around, have a nice intimate feel with your guitar.

So whether you are playing with a bunch of buddies, in the studio or out live, the 814ce Deluxe is going to take you to distance and look great.

So let’s recap, when looking for a guitar between $3,000.00 or $4,000.00, you really have a ton of choices. So our recommendation, go to a guitar shop, pull them down off the wall, play a bunch of them, put them in your lap, strum them, pick them, do whatever you need to do to find the right guitar that fits you and sounds best for you.
