Overview

Academy 12-N (2017)

Ideal both for beginner players or experienced guitarists seeking an affordable nylon-string guitar to add to the toolkit, the Academy 12-N generates a rich, snappy acoustic tone with the classical-hued flavor that only comes with nylon strings. Made with a solid Lutz spruce top for power, projection and articulation, this Grand Concert model offers a seamless playing feel thanks to its compact dimensions, built-in armrest and slender Taylor neck. Players will appreciate the radiused fretboard and 1-7/8" nut width, which provides ample spacing for fingerstyle arrangements but maintains a relaxed feel for fretting. The acoustic-only Academy 12-N ships with a soft-sided gig bag for transportation.

Scott G

Best answer Glen W. Taylor Guitars staff

Close, but not exactly. Both versions use Fan bar styles that come in different
arrangements, and we use both five-bar and three-bar patterns.
The three-bar pattern (used for Academy, 100 and 200 Series
nylon-string models) is a unique Taylor design that chief designer
Andy Powers adapted from his ukulele designs. It produces a
signature Taylor nylon-string voice: clear, open, responsive to a
light touch, and long on sustain.

And I believed naught but my Black Martin D-35 as the "Stradivarius" of guitars.

Best guitar at any price!

5 out of 5 stars Bernie S.

This is the best sounding guitar I have ever played. And that includes some expensive classical and steel string guitars. The strings that come with this guitar feel and sound great ! Set up was perfect for me right out of the box! Taylor may have more expensive guitars, but none that sound better !

Beginners everywhere rejoice! I bought this guitar used on Craigslist and spent 80.00 on a proper setup and holy cow, this is truly the best value in guitars I have found in 50 years of owning and playing guitars. 12 frets to the body with no cutaway makes upper registers harder to access, however it yeilds a wonderful slinky feel and the Taylor neck and setup will keep you inspired for years to come. I have not found anything that puts so much musicality at the fingertips for so little money. Hats off to the people at Taylor for putting such a wonderful instrument within easy reach of any beginner or seasoned player for that matter. I have had and still own many far more expensive Taylor guitars, but this one is really special. I can't put it down! I wish I had owned this guitar when I was learning at age 12. Thanks again Taylor and keep em coming!

First, a bit of a disclaimer! I have played guitar for over 50 years but I was NEVER was able to read music. Yes, I know there are a lot of TABS out there, and I primarily relied on that and my own work figuring songs out. I always loved Classical guitar more than any other music form, but could not read the music. I decided that with the time left to me I would learn to read music and play Classic Guitar style. I am learning to both read music and play with the help of a great instruction manual. Despite the fact that I am moving very slowly (just past the Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star stage!) I absolutely love it and am dedicated to practicing every day. Some people just don't get it until their later years! The Taylor Academy 12-N is PERFECT for me....great sound and tonation, superb neck configuration and I love the simple no-frills look. Really a perfect fit for me Thanks for helping make it happen.
