Can I get one built with a nut width of 1 3/4" ?
Sorry, no. This model is only manufactured with a 1-11/16" nut width.
Just curious, why medium strings on a smaller body guitar? Would light gauge sound as good?
The GS Mini is a smaller version of our Grand Symphony body style, which is typically designed for medium gauge strings. If you prefer light gauge strings, you can absolutely make that switch.
You may notice a slight reduction in volume and projection, but the guitar will still sound very good and remain balanced and responsive.

Taylor GS Mini is perfect for my petite granddaughter.
A few years ago I purchased a 3/4 size “beginner” nylon string guitar for my granddaughter as an encouragement for her to learn guitar. She’s now ready for an upgrade. She’s on the petite size so I ruled out full size guitars. I discovered “travel guitars” was a category and that’s where I found information on the Taylor GS Mini. Lots of YouTube videos. I wanted a well-built, good sounding guitar that she can play for decades and the general consensus of several videos recommended the Taylor GS Mini. Our town has limited music stores so I went to the Taylor webpage. I was a bit apprehensive purchasing a guitar without actually seeing and playing it, but I was assured if it wasn’t exactly what I wanted, I could return it at no cost to me. It arrived (quickly) and is not only a great size for my granddaughter, but it is beautiful and It is obviously a quality product. I’m very pleased with the Taylor guitar and the purchasing process.

I was looking for a great sounding acoustic guitar bigger than a small travel guitar, but smaller than my Martin D28. Found it in the Taylor GS Mini. Perfect size. It's lightweight, easy to play, and as touted with a bigger than expected sound. I highly recommend it.

Beautiful sound in this small package.
I played my GS Mini Sapele over the holiday. I was quite honestly stunned by the clarity, beauty, and resonance in such a small package. I have a Taylor 818e, a Martin D-18, and a Martin 000-28EC, so I know what resonance is about. I immediately fell in love with this little guitar.

Most Played Instrument
I went to a Taylor road show while looking for a parlor guitar mainly for road trips. After watching the Taylor musician demonstrate a GS Mini and playing it myself, I walked out of there with one. The intonation is perfect all the way up the neck. It tone gives very little to my other two more expensive guitars, and it plays very smooth and fast. Because of these features and because it’s so handy, it’s become my most played instrument of the three guitars, two banjos, and mandolin in my possession.

Extremely High Action
Bought new a couple of weeks ago. Action was extremely high. Also, saddle was way off. Technician said Taylor should never have let this leave the factory. Did not need a neck shim, thank goodness, but very disappointing. Technician made adjustments and plays well now. Rethinking if Taylor guitars are as good as their reputation suggests.

A delicate revelation
Amazingly loud for such a small guitar, and astonishingly resonant. After 40 years of playing, arthritis made playing a full scale guitar painful. Plus I have short fingers. It finally occurred to me to seek out a smaller scale instrument. Most sounded inadequate. Then I discovered the GS Mini. I played several versions in-store and the spruce top (with LTD edition koa back and sides) was the brightest. I got a nice set-up with Elixir 11s and it's given me a new lease on life. Only con is I'm a heavy picker and strummer and started to notice a little wear around the soundhole after a year. Taylor admitted the light finish used to increase the top response might not agree with my heavy handed technique and recommended soundhole guards. I wish the guitar was a tad less fragile because I do love it.

The GS Mini Sapele and Mahogany Guitars
The GS Mini Mahogany I purchased new from Sweetwater Music and had it professional setup. I upgraded the tuners to Taylor Black Chrome tuners. Removed the plastic pick guard and installed an ebony pick guard matching the fret board along with matching ebony truss rod cover. Installed a set of Taylor's cremiole ebony bridge pins. She is a beauty to the eyes, the comfort to hold in your hands and soothing to the ears. Very warm deep tones. Smooth playability with its perfectly designed neck.
The GS Mini Sapele I rescued from eBay. She had a crack in the top below the low E string. Obviously she was not maintained in proper humidity. Well I gave her the much love and care she deserved properly humidifying, repair the crack, clean and polishing with a fresh set or D'addario 13-56 strings. She is a joy to play with bright crisp tones with easy playability. She has a loud strong voice. Snappy.
