The GS Mini Bass was originally designed to work exclusively with a custom D’Addario string set due to its unique 23.5" scale length and bracing. However, there are now two approved string options:

D’Addario XTB3790GS – This is the official replacement for the original EXP set. It features the same gauges (.037–.090) and was designed specifically for the GS Mini Bass.

Pyramid 23.5" Acoustic Bass Set – Approved by our master builder Andy Powers, this flatwound set features a nylon core and is available through Thomann. It offers a different feel and tone, and is a great option if you're looking for something smoother under the fingers.

We don’t recommend experimenting with unapproved string sets, as the GS Mini Bass was engineered very precisely, and incompatible strings can cause playability issues or even damage the instrument.

Great, versatile instrument

5 out of 5 stars Roundabout One

It’s a great, fun instrument. Taylor’s description undersells it. They focus on portability, playing around the campfire, and at home recording, but it works great at a band gig. I’m a guitar player, but wanted to play bass on some songs in the band. Its small scale makes it a beeeze for a guitar player to pick up and play. It has a really nice, deep acoustic bass sound. I had occasional feedback at loud gig in a sonically challenging bar, but I bought an inexpensive sound hole cover that solved the problem.
