Overview

PS14ce Ironbark/Sinker Redwood

At the pinnacle of the Taylor line, the Presentation Series serves up an unparalleled combination of signature craftsmanship, rich tone and artful aesthetics, and the new PS14ce Ironbark is no exception. This beautifully appointed Grand Auditorium acoustic-electric is crafted with back and sides of red ironbark, a responsibly sourced tonewood that yields a sweet yet muscular voice with a punchy midrange character. A sinker redwood top sourced from logs submerged in California riverbeds delivers cedar-like warmth with remarkable touch sensitivity and dynamic range, while our V-Class interior bracing adds more sustain, louder volume and improved harmony between notes all the way up the neck. Premium features include a radius-style ebony armrest that offers a smooth surface for your strumming arm and Gotoh 510 antique gold tuning machines with an ultra-precise 21:1 gear ratio. The PS14ce Ironbark sports a single-ring paua rosette, ebony binding with paua top edge trim, ebony bridge pins with green abalone dots, and elaborate California Vine inlays in paua and mother of pearl for the fretboard, peghead, and bridge. It's finished with a full-body gloss and a shaded edgeburst color treatment and includes both ES2 electronics and a deluxe hardshell case.

Features

Grand Auditorium

Our flagship shape offers comfort and cross-genre utility, with a clear, balanced tone suited for both fingerstyle and strumming.

Red Ironbark

This tonewood from our urban wood initiative yields power, fidelity and depth for a supremely balanced, muscular sound.

Sinker Redwood

Tight grain structure and cross-grain stiffness produce a bold and brilliant response with warm overtones. Think cedar on steroids.

Expression System® 2

The Expression System® 2 captures more of a guitar’s dynamic properties using a breakthrough behind-the-saddle design.

Venetian Cutaway

The Venetian cutaway is known for its soft, round lines. The sloping peak of the cutaway will vary depending on the shape of the body.

V-Class Bracing

Our patented V-Class bracing is a revolutionary new pattern — a new sonic engine — that marks a major shift away from traditional steel-string bracing patterns.

PS14ce Purchase and Review

5 out of 5 stars Mark P.

Just purchased this guitar from Sweetwater. I requested 4 Taylor guitars to play, including:
PS14ce Presentation Series
914ce Builders Edition
K24ce Builders Edition
C24ce Catch Custom #43

All these guitars had the same body shape/bracing, scale length, neck carve, and fretboard radius. They differed only in the woods, and what a difference the wood makes when you get to play them side-by-side! The K24ce and C24ce were each too "chimey" for me (acknowledging that all had new strings), and it came down to the 914ce and the PS14ce. They were equally beautiful in appearance and I was having a difficult time deciding which to select.

Then my lovely wife suggested a "blind test"...I closed my eyes and she handed me a guitar. I played it a few minutes, just listening. Then, keeping eyes closed, she handed me the other. I immediately preferred the sound of one over the other! And I thought I knew which one I liked, based on my prior playing of both...and I was wrong! The guitar I preferred, which I was holding as I opened my eyes, was the PS14ce.

This guitar has a rich and full tone that responds to strum attack, pick use, fingerstyle approach, etc., and seems to amplify the differences in each of these playing techniques. The low end is resonant and can be heard very well even with hammer-on chord technique. Sustain is incredible, and the intonation all the way up the neck is spot on. I thought the PS14ce might be a bit too "flashy" for me, but no longer now that I've shown/played it for a while. It is an heirloom-grade instrument, and the tone woods used deliver an incredible sound. I also am a fan of the controversial ES2, and I get that same beautiful enhanced tone when I run it through my JBL PRX ONE.
