Academy 10 (2017)
Designed with beginners in mind but appealing to experienced players as well, the Academy A10 from Taylor boasts a solid spruce top and a comfortable, easy-playing neck that will inspire you to play more and improve your skills. This Dreadnought, made with layered sapele back and sides, serves up a powerful voice with clear projection, perfect not just for learning but for jam sessions, practice and playing for an audience. This all-acoustic, non-cutaway model includes a soft, lightweight gig bag for easy and safe transportation.

Is this full size dreadnought unlike the big baby?
It is not quite full size. The lower bout is 15" compared to 16" on the full size dreadnought.
Is the Relief Groove present on the Academy Series? What is the size of the sound holes?
Yes. 4"
what hard shell case fits this smaller guitar?
We do not currently produce a hard case for the Academy Dreadnought. The TKL Grand Concert series has a high likelihood of fitting, but we have not tested that case yet.
What is the neck width at the nut?
1 11/16"
I love my Academy 10 but the body width is 15 inches, not 16 inches. Maybe I am not measuring the guitar correctly. Has anyone else noticed that the A10 is not 16 inches wide?
We are currently working to update the spec on the site. The Academy 10's lower bout is 15 1/8'

What is the overall length of the guitar? What is the overall length of the gig bag?
The guitar is 40 1/4". The gig bag is roughly 41"
What is rock hard maple ?
Hard maple and rock maple are the same, and that's what we use, not soft maple.
Where is the guitar made?
This model is made in our Tecate, Mexico factory.
what string gauge comes with from factory?
Light gauge 12-53
Does this guitar come with a case or a bag?
Yes, it comes with a durable soft bag.
Can I put a lighter gauge of string on Academy Series guitars?
Yes, installing lighter strings is easy and may help reduce the strain on your fingers if you're just learning to play. Keep in mind a change in string gauge may require a little set-up work to accommodate the change in string tension.
Does this guitar come with an onboard tuner?
Yes. On "e" models with electronics the tuner is located near the volume and tone controls (on the side of the upper bout of the guitar's body).
Can I get one with a cutaway?
Sorry, they're not available with a cutaway.
Do you offer a hard case instead of the gig bag these come with?
For the Academy 12 and Academy 12-N models we have the Grand Concert Aerocase available on our web store.
Can I special order one with a different nut width?
Sorry, the nut width that comes standard is the only size available.
Can I add a pickguard?
Yes, pickguards can be purchased separately on our web store and are easy to install, just peel and stick.

Great value for the money and very easy to play
This instrument is very comfortabel and exceptionally easy to play and it sounds great. The only downside I can find, precise tuning is a little difficult because of the transmission of the machine heads.
