I have a Big Baby and want to play barre chords, but I have trouble generating enough pressure. What strings should I buy to help play barre chords?

I am a low level intermediate player and like to strum classic rock songs like Heart of Gold by Neil Young. I would like to learn how to play barre chords but it is difficult for me to play the standard barre chords. My fingers don't seem to be flexible enough and it is hard to get enough pressure. (I am 71 years old). I understand getting an adjustment to my Big Baby would help, but what guitar strings are recommended? Something light I suppose. Thanks

No. But a replacement neck could be ordered and installed by an authorized Taylor service center.

How does the size of the Big Baby compare to other Taylor models?
The Big Baby Taylor is larger than the Baby Taylor and the GS Mini, but smaller than full-size models from the Academy Series and up.
Will this fit in an airplane overhead compartment?
The guitar will fit in most overhead compartments, but you may want to check with your airline for their rules about stowing something that's not the dimensions of a rollerboard-type suitcase. Also, if you do stow it in a plane's overhead compartment, you'll want to make sure other passengers don't place baggage on top of the guitar.
Does this guitar come with a case or a bag?
Yes, it comes with a durable soft bag.
Can I add a pickguard?
Yes, pickguards can be purchased separately on our web store and are easy to install, just peel and stick.
Can I special order one with a different nut width?
Sorry, the 1 11/16" nut width that comes standard is the only size available.
Do you offer a hard case instead of the gig bag?
No, we don't offer hard cases for these models. However, SKB Cases makes a hard case for the Babys.

My first taylor...Nice tone, light to handle, nice gig bag, nicely made; but buzzes at top frets and strings close together and hard to bend for leads, but that is nitpicky on my part

What a marvel!
I've played multiple acoustics in my time, but holy cannoli, this guitar is an incredible instrument! Sometimes you just pick something up for a lark in a shop and, BANG, it speaks to you like a lifelong friend. I wasn't even looking to buy a guitar, but there was a synchronicity at play that doesn't occur too often. Thank you, Taylor, for creating such a significant tone that speaks volumes through a "carry along" acoustic. What a marvel!

Perfect practice or secondary guitar
The BBT is so good for what it is. I've had electrics for years, and when shopping for my first acoustic I repeatedly came back to the Big Baby. I didn't choose it at the time because I wanted a different sound and ultimately went with a 722 koa. Now, a year later I was shopping for another guitar to take some of the workload off my expensive guitar, and after trying everything around $1000 or less I was always ending the day with the BBT in my hands.
There are so many things right with this guitar - it's close to full dreadnaught size but is a bit thinner, so for home playing/practice it feels right but isn't too loud. The 25.5" scale length is wonderful and fairly difficult to find on smaller guitars. The neck is, well, a Taylor and is fast and comfortable. I particularly like that they're using layered Walnut for these as I like the tone better than sapele. And overall it's top notch Taylor quality - the tuning machines feel great, the fit and finish are beautiful - it looks, plays, and feels amazing. It's a smaller guitar so one could argue that tone is sacrificed, however the Walnut really helps, in my opinion, to sound controlled and not boxy. I didn't choose this to be my #1 / gigging guitar, but for everything else it's perfect.
I purchased mine directly from Taylor's website because my local shop didn't have the non-electric and was not working with me to get one. I ended up paying less money and getting it faster - in Hawaii - by purchasing directly from Taylor. It came in 2 days for a very reasonable cost.
My guitar might need a little bit of work to get setup to specs, but Taylor will take care of it if something is amiss. Their customer service is the best and I actually found my amazing tech through them. The guitar is certainly playable and enjoyable so I don't think this is outside normal expectations.

A happy and fun guitar. A keeper for me.
Played for an hour just now. An out of the box player. Low Action. Amazing sound for its size. Realy beautiful too. Mine makes a sort of 'knack' sound when pressing the neck against the body with some force. I'll have to look into this, but have no worries. After all, wood on wood makes noises.

Awesome Travel 6 String
My full sized acoustic is a Martin and I wanted to upgrade my travel guitar. I got an inexpensive guitar that was made of polycarbon. I thought maybe changing the action and strings would satisfy me. The guitar still didn't have the sound I was looking for. On a whim, I came back to this Taylor model after considering it for a wedding last summer.
I took this little one with me to play at a wedding this year also. Granted the venue wasn't very large and it was more outdoors. I was concerned that the sound wouldn't carry to the back of the chapel. Boy, was I wrong! The sound carried through the building and outside! Plus it didn't take up too much storage space on my road trip. I take it to work sometimes just to jam during a break or when I get off and play with friends. It is the best and now I use it the most!

My second guitar. First one was something I got for $10 in 1968, which was essentially not playable. Now that I have a quality guitar, I can start learning. My hands are a little small, so the smaller neck helps me a lot.

That kind of vibration noise is usually caused by something loose on the guitar rattling. It could be a loose tuner, strap pin, or ball end of a string not seated properly. In any case, it's a simple fix. Please reply to our email and we'll look for a certified Taylor tech in your area. Thanks!
