Academy 12 (2017)
Designed with new players in mind but comfortable and accessible to guitarists of all ability levels, the Academy 12 is a compact Grand Concert acoustic guitar with a solid top and an easy-playing Taylor Neck. The solid spruce top, paired with layered sapele back and sides, generates projection, clarity and volume, making this a perfect option for learners seeking a guitar that will grow with them. This all-acoustic, non-cutaway model features a built-in armrest that takes the edge off your strumming arm for greater playing comfort. It ships with a lightweight gig bag for transportation between lessons, practice sessions and anywhere else your music takes you.

If I buy an academy 12 from you, will you install a pick guard for me before you ship it?
The guitars on our site are all boxed up and ready to ship. If you would like to add a pickguard from the factory, you would need to place a special order with an authorized dealer. Otherwise, pickguards are available after the fact directly from our parts team at 1-800-943-6782.

Is cr2025 the correct battery?
The original ESB uses 2 CR2032 batteries. The newer version takes a 9v.
Can I put a lighter gauge of string on Academy Series guitars?
Yes, installing lighter strings is easy and may help reduce the strain on your fingers if you're just learning to play. Keep in mind a change in string gauge may require a little set-up work to accommodate the change in string tension.
Can I add a pickguard?
Yes, pickguards can be purchased separately on our web store and are easy to install, just peel and stick.
Can I special order one with a different nut width?
Sorry, the nut width that comes standard is the only size available.
Do you offer a hard case instead of the gig bag these come with?
For the Academy 12 and Academy 12-N models we have the Grand Concert Aerocase available on our web store.
Can I get one with a cutaway?
Sorry, they're not available with a cutaway.
Does this guitar come with an onboard tuner?
Yes. On "e" models with electronics the tuner is located near the volume and tone controls (on the side of the upper bout of the guitar's body).

The best value Taylor Grand Concert
I absolutely love this guitar. Perfect size in every way. Scale length, body size, sound, ease of playing. I could go on and on.
The only thing I wish is that it was available also in a mahogany top like the GS mini.
