Overview

Builder's Edition K14ce

Watch Video

Crafted to deliver an ultra-refined playing experience with tone and comfort to match, the Builder's Edition K14ce is a Grand Auditorium acoustic-electric guitar designed to the exacting preferences of our master guitar designer, Andy Powers. Back and sides of solid, beautifully grained Hawaiian koa produce warm lows and crisp, clear treble notes, with the specially roasted spruce top adding a bit of aged sweetness. Builder's Edition special features include a beveled armrest and cutaway, chamfered body and fretboard edges, and our Silent Satin finish, with an artful Spring Vine inlay that tops off the visual details. The Builder's Edition K14ce ships with ES2 electronics and a deluxe hardshell case.

Features

Grand Auditorium

Our flagship shape offers comfort and cross-genre utility, with a clear, balanced tone suited for both fingerstyle and strumming.

Hawaiian Koa

Few woods carry the allure of Hawaiian koa, with its gorgeous figure and sweet, complex tone.

Torrefied Spruce

Treated with our special roasting process, torrefied spruce tops deliver all the clarity, balance and projection you’d expect from a traditional spruce top with an extra dash of warmth and played-in depth.

Expression System® 2

The Expression System® 2 captures more of a guitar’s dynamic properties using a breakthrough behind-the-saddle design.

Beveled Cutaway

Our beveled cutaway design provides a more player-friendly feel for guitarists who utilize every inch of the fretboard. It features a compound design with a smoothened edge along the corner of the body between the end of the cutaway and the neck heel, providing a more comfortable feel for the fretting hand.

V-Class Bracing

Our patented V-Class bracing is a revolutionary new pattern — a new sonic engine — that marks a major shift away from traditional steel-string bracing patterns.

Are these guitars acoustic electric or only acoustic?

Best answer Glen W. Taylor Guitars staff

Comes with electronics as standard but can be special ordered without.

Do the BE guitars have an altered neck profile and if yes, what is it like?

Best answer Josh M. Taylor Guitars staff

BE's with a cutaway have our standard neck carve. The GP Builder's Editions like the 717 and 517 have a compound neck carve. The compound carve flattens a bit as you get further up the neck.

Love it

Definitely not a loud acoustic, but the subtle nature of tone is extremely wide ranging and you never know when it’s going to flash an unexpected gem of sound. Intonation is absolutely incredible— best of any guitar I’ve owned. Unreal acoustic electric for finger style, rhythm comp and single note. Also stunningly beautiful….

The Taylor K14ce Builder's Edition is nothing short of a masterpiece, combining exquisite craftsmanship with an unparalleled acoustic experience. This guitar is a testament to Taylor's commitment to innovation and quality.

The first thing that strikes you about the K14ce Builder's Edition is its stunning aesthetic. The guitar features a beautifully figured top, KOA back, and sides, each piece unique with its natural grain patterns. The Silent Satin finish not only looks elegant but also enhances the wood's natural resonance. The beveled armrest and cutaway, along with the chamfered body edges, provide superior comfort and playability, making it a joy to hold and play for extended sessions.

Versatile but perhaps not an immediate pick for everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Richard R.

I am mainly a nylon string acoustic player. I don't, however, play Taylor Nylons. The K14ce however, caught my eye in when production was announce. I had decided to get a steel string acoustic, and I tried over 100 instruments, and kept a log of what I did and didn't like about each. First, as you may have discovered even the same makes and models, sound or respond differently, This was also true of the Taylor K14ce. The day I finally chose this guitar, my ears were worn out from some of the other larger sounding guitars (914 etc) as well as top of the line Martins and Cummings, I came back to this instrument, it was so much sweeter, with controlled dynamics and room in the spectrum for voices and other instruments. This was later also verified in studio use. Even the engineers commented how balanced it's tonal range was, easy to mic and EQ for finger style. Having said that, if you are wanting the sound of a rosewood dreadnaught, the K14ce may not suit your ear. Oh and like all Taylors, with the right strings and a little tweaking, it plays comfortably. As it turns out I bought one of the first production, and now I love it.
