Overview

Legacy 514ce

Watch Video

The Legacy 514ce, initially conceived as part of Taylor's 50th anniversary celebration, pays homage to the Grand Auditorium body shape, a true Bob Taylor original that has redefined how acoustic guitars sound, look and feel since its debut in 1994. This exclusive Legacy collection model boasts a tonewood pairing not found in the Taylor standard line: mahogany back and sides with a top of Western Red cedar. With its punchy midrange and dry, woody character, mahogany is perfectly suited to pair with cedar's warmth and soft-touch sensitivity, which will especially appeal to fingerstyle players and strummers with a lighter stroke. Voiced with the X-bracing that Bob used in the first Grand Auditorium models three decades ago and crafted with Taylor's signature slim, easy-playing neck profile, the Legacy 514ce is sure to inspire both traditionalists and contemporary-minded players alike. Appointments reflect Bob's preferred sleek aesthetic with faux tortoiseshell binding and pickguard, white and black top purfling, Small Diamond fretboard inlays in mother-of-pearl, a three-ring rosette in green abalone, ebony bridge pins with green abalone dots, gold tuning machines, and a gloss-finished body with a satin finish for the neck. This model includes LR Baggs Element VTC electronics with soundhole-mounted controls and ships with a deluxe hardshell case.

The warmth and depth is back!

5 out of 5 stars Porter

I've waited for this guitar for a long time. My first Taylor was a first year (1999) 314ce. Still love the sound of that guitar. "Wow - that guitar sounds amazing!" is what I hear whenever I play it. I've owned several other Taylor guitars and enjoyed them all. However, the sound changed significantly, in my opinion, when they went to V-class bracing - not bad, just different. Many of my long-term Taylor guitar playing friends were frankly, a little disappointed that Taylor chose to virtually eliminate Bob Taylor's original X-brace design on all the 300 and up series guitars. Bob is a genius - So is Andy - but they definitely have different ways of creating great sound. That said, I was overjoyed when they brought back that original vibe with the Legacy series. The warmth and depth is back with this 514ce Legacy. The neck is perfect, string height is spot on. I was at the music store when they unwrapped it and took it out of its case. I was stunned by the beauty of the wood top and it was perfectly in tune. The sound was everything I hoped it would be - full, articulate, warm. With my first strum the salesmen raised their eyebrows and said "Wow...that's amazing!" Just the kind of response you want to hear. I'm playing it every day and can't get enough. I hope they keep and even expand Bob's Legacy series by including some of his early Grand Concert series guitars. Thank you so much! You hit a grand slam homer!

Better than you may think!

Hi all. I'll make this as quick as possible.
I owned a 414ce-v Brace. I read some reviews of this guitar (514ce Legacy) and decided to try one out. I went to Gryphon stringed instruments in Palo Alto CA and try one. I played the guitar through an acoustic amp. I noticed a HUGE difference in tone and response. I chose to keep eq neutral across the board. Amp and guitar. Pick and fingers the tone woods sang! Try one. See if you agree. Good luck, and happy new year.
