Watch VideoFeaturing the Grand Pacific dreadnought body shape, exclusive comfort features and top-tier tonewoods, the Builder's Edition 517e WHB introduces Taylor players to a new kind of sound within our lineup. Solid mahogany back and sides generate a warm, punchy midrange response with projection and aged-in warmth from the torrefied Sitka spruce top, resulting in a blended, seasoned tone with clear low-end power. Our V-Class bracing enhances the response with more volume and longer sustain while also providing greater harmony between notes. This Builder's Edition model also boasts chamfered edges and a compound-carve neck profile for a more seamless feel, and the Silent Satin finish reduces incidental playing noise for recording applications.

What is the difference between “tropical mahogany” and “mahogany”? I see references to both, is there a difference?
The term “Mahogany” by itself is a general reference and can be used when someone doesn’t really know what kind of Mahogany it is (Cuban, African or Big leaf).
“Tropical Mahogany” is a common name we use as a company to identify Big Leaf Mahogany (Swietenia Macrophylla) we buy from Central America vs Fiji Mahogany which is Big Leaf Mahogany we buy from Fiji.

Pure Honey
This is my dream guitar, the one I’ve earned by playing for 55 years and loving every day of it. The tones and sustain rival any I heard playing Martin guitars, and its sheer beauty is breathtaking. I use low tension strings due to arthritis and it plays silky smooth. I took it to my daughter’s wedding in NYC and it was a big hit.
