Overview

Builder's Edition 914ce

Watch Video

Crafted with top-tier tonewoods and master-level detailing, the Builder's Edition 914ce raises the bar for our family of refined, player-focused acoustic guitars. This Grand Auditorium features back and sides of solid Honduran rosewood, a dense, hard wood that yields stunning harmonic texture with warm lows, piano-like trebles and a smooth attack. We've selected sinker redwood for the top, a wood sourced from old-growth logs submerged in Northern California riverbeds. Redwood's warmth and touch sensitivity are comparable to cedar, but with a higher volume ceiling and an enhanced dynamic range. With our V-Class bracing inside, the result is a high-fidelity sound complemented by lush overtones and remarkable pitch precision. Comfort-enhancing features include a beveled armrest and cutaway, chamfered body edges, and a smooth Curve Wing bridge, yielding a truly seamless feel. The Builder's Edition 914ce is artfully detailed with Hawaiian koa purfling, paua edge trim, an ebony backstrap, Gotoh 510 tuners in antique gold, Belle Fleur inlays in paua and mother-of-pearl, and a gorgeous Kona edgeburst for the back and sides with a full-body gloss finish.

Features

Top-Tier Craftsmanship Meets World-Class Tonewoods

Honduran rosewood and sinker redwood deliver sophisticated sound to complement bold visual artistry and comfort-focused enhancements.

Grand Auditorium

Our flagship shape offers comfort and cross-genre utility, with a clear, balanced tone suited for both fingerstyle and strumming.

Honduran Rosewood

Extremely dense compared to other rosewood species, Honduran rosewood sings with a uniquely smooth voice that makes it worthy of our finest guitars.

Sinker Redwood

Tight grain structure and cross-grain stiffness produce a bold and brilliant response with warm overtones. Think cedar on steroids.

Expression System® 2

The Expression System® 2 captures more of a guitar’s dynamic properties using a breakthrough behind-the-saddle design.

Beveled Cutaway

Our beveled cutaway design provides a more player-friendly feel for guitarists who utilize every inch of the fretboard. It features a compound design with a smoothened edge along the corner of the body between the end of the cutaway and the neck heel, providing a more comfortable feel for the fretting hand.

V-Class Bracing

Our patented V-Class bracing is a revolutionary new pattern — a new sonic engine — that marks a major shift away from traditional steel-string bracing patterns.

Fantastic Guitar, but . . .

5 out of 5 stars Douglas W.

Great guitar in every way. Prefer the sound of my 814ce B.E. Adirondack/Indian Rosewood finger style or pick.

This guitar sounds like it's 50 years old right out of the box! The clarity, tonality and sustain are unbelievable.

I've played lots of guitars over the years, and maybe none of them sounded better than my brand new 914ce Builders Edition. This guitar sounds like it's 50 years old right out of the box! No trace of any bright tinny tone Taylors might be (unjustly) criticized for, just lustrous, vibrant warm tones. The clarity, projection and sustain are also unbelievable. Loses none of its richness when plugged in. Playability is amazing, using medium strings on the 914ce feels like using light gauge strings on other guitars. I couldn't put this piece of art back on the wall so I bought it and brought her home. I play this guitar all the time and I've never regretted the purchase. So is it worth the price? Every freaking cent.

Expensive but worth it

5 out of 5 stars Michael S.

This guitar sounds as terrific as it looks. It's incredibly beautiful, and the sound quality is amazing. Tones are sustained and clear, harmonics are bright. There is a deep, soothing mellowness when flat-picked just forward of the sound hole, and the sustain when strumming chords over the hole, especially open chords, is especially pleasing. It's hard to put this guitar down. Just begs to be played.

Fingerpicker’s Dream

5 out of 5 stars Tall Jak

This guitar is a complete dream to play. Not only is it dazzling to the eyes but it has an incredibly balanced sound. The trebles sparkle and surprisingly embody the chime-like timbre of the Honduran rosewood. The mids and bass are warm rich with the the typical taylor brightness. It’s hard to put this thing down and Lord help my roommates for late practice sessions go as a result!

Fantastic guitar - pristine craftsmanship

5 out of 5 stars Greyhatninja

Just purchased the guitar over the weekend. The tones are nothing short of amazing. Im upgrading from an 814ce V-class sitka/rosewood. That also sounds great as well but I really wanted a redwood guitar ever since seeing the presentation version of this guitar played by Josephine Alexandra and really liking the tone.
