Can I change the strings that came from factory 0,13 to 0,12, without adjust the trossrod ?

Carlos P.

Best answer Glen W. Taylor Guitars staff

Changing to 12's won't hurt the guitar, so give them a try. There's a chance it may need a truss rod adjustment any time you remove all the strings and install new ones. That's an adjustment you can make on your own, see the adjustment doc and video in our help center.

Josh M. Taylor Guitars staff

It will most likely need a truss rod adjustment. <a href="https://www.taylorguitars.com/support/maintenance/truss-rod-adjustments" target="_blank">https://www.taylorguitars.com/support/maintenance/truss-rod-adjustments</a>

My new favorite guitar

5 out of 5 stars Mark W.

I have 3 Taylor guitars. A 510, a 12 string, and now a GS mini-e mahogany. My new GS mini has quickly become my favorite guitar. It is easy to play, easy to carry around, and it sounds beautiful. I've been playing guitar since I was 8, and I am now 66. I am developing, or have developed arthritis in my left hand. That makes it hard to form certain chords on a full size guitar. When I first played a GS mini, i was so happy that I could play the way I used to! I don't have near as much pain in my knuckles. I really love this guitar.

Superior tone out of the box..

5 out of 5 stars Charles

I have been playing guitar for 30+ years and own 6 other guitars. I like them all....The GS Mini outshines them all..

I bought one from Tom Lee Music in Vancouver, on a whim, and although I was just "kicking tires", I could not leave the store without buying it.. It is now my preferred guitar to play.

I may have lucked out on this specific guitar, but honestly, it has the best tone of any guitar I have ever owned right out of the box..

Love this little beast

5 out of 5 stars Phil P.

I recently purchases a GS Mini. I broke my left arm and wrist pretty badly years ago and playing my full size Seagull S-6 (purchased new in 1992) was pretty painful. This guitar is actually helping it. I nicknamed her Janis because although she might not be the largest in the room, you're gonna hear her. Also, I believe more kids would keep playing if they had a guitar that would actually act like one...stay in tune, sound good, etc...I purchased a pickup made for Taylor for it. Guitar already has clip. Installed in 5 minutes. Playability and incredible sound made this a no brainer for me. One question: I've heard a pick guard affects resonance. Maybe leave it off? offer as an option? No matter, love this thing. It very well might turn into my go-to guitar

Response from Taylor Guitars, Josh M.

Thanks for the great review, Phil. We're pleased to hear you are enjoying your new GS mini e Mahogany. I have a pretty good ear. If you blind folded me and played a Mini with a pickguard and one without, I would not be able to tell you which is which. If you feel that you need a
pickguard, you can definitely add one. If you would like to order one, they are available here <a href="https://www.taylorguitars.com/taylorware/pickguards/taylor-gs-mini-pickguard" target="_blank">https://www.taylorguitars.com/taylorware/pickguards/taylor-gs-mini-pickguard</a>

Mini guitar, big sound!!

5 out of 5 stars Dennis F.

Bought this guitar today at Willis Music in Florence, KY. Went to the store "only to look" at a mini, as I'd never been around one before. Due to my arthritis issues in my hand, it's difficult to frett my large dreadnought guitars nowadays. This is so much easier to play. Was I ever surprised when I picked up this mini-e, and stated playing it!! Rich, loud, and deep tones can.and does come in a small package. I was immediately impressed by this little feller! I could not believe the sound before hooking it to my amp, but once I did, wow, wow, wow. Wish I would have made this purchase a few years ago!! Also the store manager a Willis Music was very helpful in making my decision, as he answered all questions with confidence, as he knew all about his products!

Take this guitar whenever Iam traveling so I can keep up on the practice. Sounds great and is well worth the price. Bought it at Tobias Guitar in Downers Grove and Paul Tobias was very knowledgeable and informative in explaining the “in’s and out” of this guitar. Very nice guitar!

Big Sound Small Package

5 out of 5 stars CHRIS D.

Great little guitar with a great tone! I’ve had a 414ce for about 23 years and I have always enjoyed it. My diminutive daughter had been learning to play on a big ole, beat up, high action, missing a tuner knob, dread naught and could barely reach the first three frets.
It seemed like the GS Mini was the perfect gift.
She loves it to this day! And so do I!

5 out of 5 stars Marcel S.

I started with the Baby Taylor, and enjoyed so much as a practice around the house guitar that I was ready and curious to try the GSmini mahogany for a warmer tone and a bit bigger guitar, and it delivered with a bigger sound, warmer tones, and comfortable size, so it was a win, win, win, for me. I purchased from Sweetwater after asking around and received great service! I enjoy this little guitar in many ways.

Not impressed

3 out of 5 stars Kam D.

There was a sticky glue spot on the body of the guitar that I could not get rid of. More importantly, the Intonation was slightly off. On the positive side, it was fun and easy to play but unfortunately I had to return it for the reasons mentioned. I think there is definitely quality control issues with the Mini Taylors. Either that or I got a lemon.

Hi Kam,
Sorry to hear about your experience. Intonation issues are usually solved with fresh strings and a set up. I can't imagine what was sticky on the body. That's not the typical experience so I hope you try another. Thanks!

Overall amazing guitar!
Its great to have a bit smaller sized guitar, it makes it easier for me play it while standing.
Great travelling companion too.
Just my preference, fingerboard may just need to be a little bit wider so its easier to play chords and stuff.

Response from Taylor Guitars, Glen W.

Hi Carrys,
Glad to hear you're loving your new GS Mini! Check out the GT models sometime. The nut width is just a hair wider on those and the overall size isn't much bigger than a Mini. Might be exactly what you're looking for. Thanks!

Taylor GS Mahogany with pickup

5 out of 5 stars Nick P.

I deeply love this guitar. I have played it almost every day. It resonates through your body as you play it which is part of the reason I chose it, to rid my body of the past trauma. It’s comfortable to play and the only problem I’ve had is that the tuner registers the “A” string as an “E” but I’m sure it’s just a little adjustment that needs to be tweaked. It sounds very nice plugged in (used a little fender amp) and I’m stumped why people swap the pickup cause it’s mint.

Thank you Taylor for designing a beautiful little guitar that I know other people will love and cherish.

Response from Taylor Guitars, Glen W.

Hi Nick,
Glad to hear you're loving your new Taylor! A little tip on using the tuner is to play a harmonic at the 5th or 12the fret instead of the open string. That helps the tuner lock into the fundamental note faster and more accurately. Thanks!
