Our compact Grand Concert body shape is a natural fit with nylon strings, generating an articulate, snappy sound that will inspire classical players and steel-string enthusiasts alike. The 312ce-N boasts solid sapele back and sides with a Sitka spruce top, offering a punchy midrange and clear highs ideal for fingerstyle play. The 1-7/8" nut width helps keep the strings adequately spaced for fingerpicking without putting strain on your fretting hand, and the Grand Concert's dimensions make for a pleasingly accommodating feel. Our ES-N electronics faithfully amplify the 312ce-N in live situations, and its clean appointment package offers a traditional, performance-focused aesthetic. It ships with a hardshell case.

Is this nylon 312 cen made with V bracing or fan bracing?. A previous answer says V but a Taylor rep I met at an event says all nylon guitars from Taylor are only fan bracing. Please clarify. Thanks
V-Class bracing is exclusively for our steel string guitars. The 312ce-N is braced with our Nylon bracing pattern, generally labelled as Fan bracing.

As a top wood, how does spruce sound vs. mahogany?
Aside from the difference in appearance, both wood types are extremely musical. Spruce is lighter in weight and has a broader dynamic range with pleasing overtones. A mahogany top is slightly denser and heavier which translates into a natural compression effect that smoothes out the attack, producing a more focused voice with fewer overtones.

Is this guitar available as a 14-fret model?
No, this is purpose-built for the neck and body to connect at the 12th fret. This makes for a compact feel that's rare in a 12-string guitar. The tone that results from the placement of the bridge in the guitar's lower bout is advantageous as well.
What makes a 12-fret guitar different?
A 12-fret guitar makes for a more compact playing framework. It combines the lap-friendly Grand Concert body with the slightly condensed fret spacing of the 24-7/8" scale length and the shorter 12-fret-to-the-neck construction. This makes a slinkier "handfeel" and easier fretting as you move up the fretboard. There's a surprising amount of tonal power and midrange warmth from the bridge sitting back a little farther on the lower bout. Also, the slotted headstock creates a more acute string angle over the nut. Because this puts a little more downward pressure on the nut, it'll feel a little more precise to your fretting hand. Notes won't bend quite as easily closer to the nut.
What's the difference between the Grand Concert and the Grand Auditorium?
The Grand Concert is considered a small-body guitar. It has an articulate voice with top-end chime and controlled overtones. Its intimate size is lap/couch friendly. The Grand Auditorium is a medium-size guitar and Taylor’s most versatile body shape. It's known for its balanced blend of warmth, clarity and sustain with a well-defined midrange.
Is this guitar solid wood?

The Taylor 312ce-N is exactly as advertised.
I have been playing all kinds of music on classical-type folk guitars since the 1960's and wanted to see if a nylon-string guitar with 20-inch radius fret-board and narrower neck would be easier to play. The specifications for the Taylor 312ce-N seemed to fit my requirements so I sold my 1970’s classical guitar at a local guitar store and they ordered the Taylor for me. It arrived today. WOW! This guitar meets all my expectations and is truly much easier to play than a classical-style guitar.
The first thing I noticed is that this guitar is far better looking that the pictures show on the Taylor website. After a thorough examination, I declare the fit and finish to be perfect, with great nylon-string sound and intonation. Much to my delight, it is also loud! I’ll have to learn to play very softly.
I have a small Fender acoustic guitar amplifier which I use with my Taylor 814ce steel-string guitar. On that guitar, I adjust the guitar volume at mid-range detent and the amplifier at about 1/4 to be plenty loud for playing indoors in my small office. The 312ce-N at mid-range detent produces much higher volume than the 814ce and I learned this evening that 1/8 of max volume on the Fender amplifier is as loud as I can go without disturbing the neighborhood. It appears that the Taylor ES-N electronics produces somewhat more volume than the ES-2 electronics. This is not a complaint, just an observation, both sound great
My only regret about buying a Taylor 312ce-N is that I didn’t get one sooner!

Excellent guitar for learning how to play guitar. Much more user friendly than the Academy nylon I purchased.
Best guitar I’ve ever owned. The setup was perfect. It is my current workhorse for learning new music. I like Taylor guitars high build quality and innovative ideas. I found the factory D’Addario strings a bit uneven sound wise. Muddy on the bass strings with the high E being especially strident going through an amp. After several trials I’ve landed on La Bella Classical 2001MHT. Slightly less tension and working quite well.
My only complaint is that the esthetic of the guitar is a bit weird. It seems too deep in the hips for its size and the decorative elements don’t coordinate stylistically between Taylor logo, fretboard inlays and way too many plastic rings around the sound hole. And of course these days all the guitars get dipped in plastic. Yuck!
But it sounds and plays terrific! Thank you!

a beautiful guitar
Looks and sounds wonderful and a joy to play. I play in an acoustic band with two other (steel) guitarists. The nylon strings add a subtle sound to the mix. Especially when we take turns with fills or solos.
