A Handsome Instrument
Exquisite acoustic sound and very good amplified with the ES-N. I've had mine for a number of years and sometimes wonder why I don't play it more. Then I remember; I'm a mandolin player. I use my 814 nylon to break the old patterns, stagnation, and to inspire myself. Audiences adore the sound. Players envy its beautiful looks as well as its sound. The 814-N can easily be tuned to DADGAG for a sound that is as unique as it is beautiful.

Truly a Pleasure to Play This Guitar
I play finger-style, and I own several steel string (most Taylor, and one Martin) guitars. I was looking for a Spanish classical-style guitar to explore some more expressive tones, when I discovered that Taylor also makes nylon string guitars. I pulled the trigger on the 814ce-N. My first impression was that the nylon is indeed more expressive, but it requires a different touch and style, which I am now happily developing. What I like about the guitar is hearing the sweet unamplified sound from the guitar, and I like the slightly wider neck.
One thing I am trying to get used to is the amplified sound. The sound is fine through my own PA system. However a venue where I regularly play is a large bar with a stage. The sound system provides a big monitor for the performer, which sounds ok with a steel string, but sounded kind of awful to me the first time up on stage with my 814-N. After my first set I asked my buddies what they thought and they said it sounded really great out in the room. I think I believe them, and so I blame the crappy monitor and the room. Another minor gripe is the new guitar seemed to go out of tune too often, but this has diminished after a few weeks as the strings age. I keep my guitars in a humidified cabinet and this also helps to stabilize the tuning. Arizona is brutal on nice guitars.
My overall impression after a few months is the 814ce-N has a beautiful and versatile voice, is impeccably crafted, and is exactly what a non-classical finger-style guitarist like myself might be looking for. It is truly a pleasure to play it.

A beautiful instrument with a wonderful sound
I'm very happy with my 814ce-N guitar. In addition to being a beautiful instrument made of a good combination of wood and other hardware, it also has a wonderful sound. And with a new set of carbon strings, it has acquired an excellent sound in terms of tone, brightness and projection. The only downside is the fact that it has a slightly high action, something that could be improved during manufacture in order to avoid going to a luthier.

Two Thumbs Up!
I bought this guitar because I wanted a nylon string guitar that I could play acoustically and not in traditional classical guitar position. I broke my back and have had two spinal surgeries due to this I have multiple thin bodied nylon string guitar which I play amplified sitting on a couch. When I opened the case I was so impressed with the beauty of this guitar. The acoustic sound is just what I was looking for ringing and robust. I am able to play it comfortably on my couch. It is my first Taylor but I now understand why the term playability is used to describe them. It was not inexpensive but nothing good is. I would strongly recommend this guitar for any serious musician!

A refreshing guitar that travels a different road.
Never considered a nylon stringed guitar before until my wife found an old Spanish guitar at an estate sale and bought it. I absolutely fell in love with it. So, I started to shop around, and the Taylor 814ce-N has it all for regular guitar players, like me, to transition to a nylon stringed guitar. The sound, response, feel, and action is so rewarding. Truly a joy to play. I.ve played a Taylor 615ce for years along with Martins, Gibson's, and Fenders but this one adds a new dimension, a different touch to your music, Nice! This guitar is also a joy to look at. Nothing negative to say otherwise.
