Why a micarta saddle vs. bone? If I were to replace it with a Taylor bone saddle, what affect would it have on the ES2 saddle sensor?

Kevin A.

Best answer Josh M. Taylor Guitars staff

Bone being a natural material tends to be less consistent through and through. We make our Micarta saddles in house and assure 100% consistency. This tends to work best with the ES2 pickup.

Great all around Taylor guitar, with rare Blacktop. Worth every dollar!

5 out of 5 stars Chad B.

I’ve owned my Builder’s Edition 814ce Blacktop going on a few month’s now and it’s absolutely the best acoustic guitar I’ve owned. I have owned a Gibson songwriter deluxe, 414ce(still own it), Guild FC47R w/DTar pickup, Guild Madeira, Washburn, Yamaha. Enough to know what I like when it comes to tones, play ability, action, craftsmanship, etc… This Blacktop does and has it all! The Gotoh 510 old gold tuners, with that 1:21 ratio, you can just dial in any tuning you choose to perfection, holding its tuning when shredding on it! I do love the Blacktop look with beautiful pick guard, and that tropical mahogany neck, that plays seamlessly, it’s just uncommon to see/find blacktop Taylor’s, which just gives it that uncommon rarity as well! Don’t just take my word for it, try and find one at a music store near you(if you can find one close)and see, feel, hear it for yourself! Besides, can’t go wrong with Taylor’s flagship guitar(814ce)for good reason, then add on the Builder’s Edition characteristics, just an AMAZING instrument!

My Second 814 CE! (and counting?)

5 out of 5 stars William (Bing) B.

This is my second 814, the first acquired in 2018 a few months before the V bracing became standard in the model. Too early to make an accurate comparison because the first guitar has aged and mellowed, all for the better. The new guitar, besides being visually stunning, is brighter, "newer" sounding (as I expected) and the harmonic ring-out goes on forever. The string height was set just above buzz and the G string was a little "thunky" (3rd fret+) when I first took the guitar out of the case. I took it to master Luthier Barry Lipman who replaced the string and said the overall string setting was fine if you like it low and I do. Overall, I had hoped for a little more of the white ribboning in the neck (the first 814 has a ton) but with only 112 of these built so far, I can't get picky. Thanks to longtime friend Bob Mondok for hiding this one under his desk for me!
