One of the photos above show the sides being a dark brown koa, while other main photos show a lighter yellow type tone Koa. Which one is accurate please?

Charles Y.

Best answer Josh M. Taylor Guitars staff

Both photos are accurate. Since Koa is a natural material, its appearance can vary quite a bit — sometimes showing darker brown hues, and other times leaning toward a lighter golden tone. Each set of Koa is unique, so those variations you see in the photos are a true representation of the natural beauty and range of the wood.

What's the difference between the 214ce k, and the dlx?

Best answer Josh M. Taylor Guitars staff

The Taylor 214ce-K and 214ce-K DLX share the same Grand Auditorium body shape, layered Hawaiian koa back and sides, Sitka spruce top, and Expression System 2 electronics, but they differ in aesthetics, hardware, and overall presentation. The 214ce-K features a matte finish with simpler appointments like 4mm dot inlays, white binding, and chrome die-cast tuners, and it comes with a tan structured gig bag. In contrast, the 214ce-K DLX offers a full gloss finish, cream binding, upgraded small diamond fretboard inlays, gold Taylor-branded tuners, and a brown deluxe hardshell case. While both deliver the signature Taylor tone and playability, the DLX model presents a more polished, premium look and feel, making it ideal for players seeking enhanced visual appeal and the added protection of a hardshell case

A beautiful looking and sounding guitar.

5 out of 5 stars Charles Y.

I've long wished for a Taylor guitar and finally decided to purchase this model as it was somewhat affordable, yet, still maintaining the famous Taylor quality. First let me say that this is an absolutely gorgeous looking guitar, and that's putting it mildly.

Of greater importance is the sound, and this was somewhat surprising, as after playing much higher end models costing twice as much, and more, this really held its own. However, sound is personal as we all may look for or desire something different. For me, as a fingerstyle guitarist, the balance of lows, mids and highs is just right. There's a purity of tone that I appreciate.

As for playability, and yes the neck, all I can say is that this makes me want to play more and that says a lot about this guitar. So far I've stuck with the included 12 gauge but will try out the 11 gauge soon. I should mention I have not tried to amplify yet but will soon.

The headstock is great and I love the tuning heads, they are well made and are very smooth. Very important point I think. Another thing that impressed me greatly was that out of the box so to speak, the action was perfect. Distance equal all across the fetboard. Very nice.

If one is wanting a Taylor, by all means try as many models as possible, but for a fingerstyle player, I think you will discover that this model is a very happy medium. It is a superb guitar.
