Builder's Edition 614ce WHB
Finished with a gorgeous Wild Honey Burst color treatment, the Builder's Edition 614ce WHB sports a distinctive look that matches its punchy, bold sound. Solid Big Leaf Maple back and sides paired with a torrefied Sitka spruce top serve up a vibrant, articulate sound with additional warmth from revoicing touches by Andy Powers. The torrefied top brings a bit of aged-in sweetness, and the V-Class bracing helps pump out more volume and longer sustain with a more in-tune overall sound. This Builder's Edition model sports a beveled armrest and cutaway, chamfered edges, and our noise-reducing Silent Satin finish. It ships with ES2 electronics and a hardshell case.

what strings should I use?
D'Addario XS lights (012"-053")
Can I use Dunlop Formula No. 65 polish on the 614ce builders edition?
We don't really recommend polish for the satin finish. We recommend our satin cleaner or a spray bottle of water diluted with a few drops of mild dish soap. Either can be applied and wiped clean with a fresh microfiber cloth.
I’ve been thinking about purchasing this guitar but I would prefer a pick guard (not the clear one) is there an option?
Being a Builder's Edition this guitar is built to our head builder's very specific specifications. They aren't modifiable. A pickguard could however be purchased and installed after the purchase of the guitar.

There is a 9-Volt battery located just below the output jack at the tail end of the guitar.
Is this available in left handed?
Sorry, no.
Can this guitar be ordered in a gloss finish?
Sorry, no. It is only available in the silent satin finish.
Why is there such a disparity between the WHB finish displayed on the Taylor website and other photos found elsewhere? The one I just bought is more a muted brown to tan-ish burst, versus the vibrant orange-ish color represented here. Are there different finishes?
Each burst consist of the same color pallet. However, these bursts are done by hand and will differ a bit from guitar to guitar.

Is it possible to switch the current inlay with the spring vine pattern?
Sorry, changing inlays is not an available option.
I just ordered a 612ce Builders Edition WHB. What are the bridge pins made of, and can I use bridge pins made of other materials? Thanks
We use ebony bridge pins, you can use something different if you like.
Can I order one with a 1-11/16” Nut width ?
Sorry, that is not an option on this model.
are these strung with "normal" light gauge strings or HD lights?
Normal lights 12-53.
My old 600 has an amber stain instead of brown. Can I order one in a different color?
No, there are no color options on this model.
Do guitars in the 600 series have real ebony fretboards and bridges?
Yes, all guitars in the 600 series have genuine West African Crelicam ebony fretboards and bridges.
Where are these guitars built?
600 series models are made in our factory in San Diego, California, USA.
Are 600 series guitars all solid wood?
Yes - all 600 series models are solid wood construction.
The body wood looks brown on most of these, is it maple like 600's have been historically?
Yes, we still use maple for the back and sides but we started staining it brown in 2014 when the series was redesigned. The 618e is the exception with it's Antique Blonde finish treatment.
What case do these come with?
All 600 series models ship in a deluxe brown hard shell case made by Taylor for optimal fit and protection.
I like this guitar but could I get it with a Florentine cutaway?
Yes, a Florentine cutaway is an available option.
Could I get one made with a different top wood?
No, this model is only available with the torrefied Sitka spruce top.

From 114 to 614
After playing the heck out of my 114ce for several years at open mics, farmers markets, coffee houses, etc, I recently purchased a 614ce BE in wild honey burst. As expected, it has taken some time to become familiar with the wider fingerboard, but I’m a full convert now. As hoped, it allows me to stretch my playing a bit, and I find myself trying chord shapes that I previously had given up trying to perfect! Another big difference from 114 to this 614 is that the top is much more responsive. Like driving a different car. That too has taken some time to adjust to and learn how to use to my advantage. Lastly, I have always found new strings on Taylor strings are way too bright for my ham-fisted approach to my Americana-styled compositions and performances. Be they D’Addario or Elixir, and that is amplified on the 614. Elixirs were replaced when tone got dull or intonation became a problem on the 114. On the 614, the jury is still out when to replace. I’ve never broken a string on either. To me, it takes a while for the strings to settle down. I get compliments on tone, which is always amplified through a PA. Oh, the neck on the 614 is fantastic in the way it feels!

Dare I say the perfect guitar?
Fantastic sound and playability. Bought it in Barcelona a few months ago and been playing it daily since I got it. The arm rest and the silent satin finish are definitely worth the hype. Balanced and complex sound.

Worth every penny, but the finish is different than pictured on Taylor website.
Amazing sound. Articulates strum and fingerpick in equal high-level measure. Have a care with the coloring, however. The WHB is way more subdued than pictured on this website. Still beautiful, but different...a more satin and matte look, understated and elegant brown tinted honey than vibrant orange honey. Not a soft-glossy finish like the site pictures.

A revelation
Just bought my 614 Builders Edition from Coda Music, in the UK. This is the first guitar I can remember buying that hasn't needed things done to it . Out of the box it sounds great and plays great.
I intend using for fingerstyle instrumental work where the clarity and depth of power in the bottom end will count, mostly in open tunings and the 21 : 1 tuners work fantastically. I am going to have a lot of fun exploring the possibilities. The armrest bevel does make a big difference.
Not a negative but an observation, being so precise and clear it will show up any sloppy playing and reward precision
