Looks amazing, but that's about it...
I want to preface this by saying I love Taylor guitars. They really know how to make something beautiful. I bought the 614 in 2020, and it was my first high end advising guitar. It had overtones and a sound that was truly stunning for Maple as a tone wood. I ended up selling it to get an even more high end Taylor, which I've regretted ever since (I regretted seeking the 614, but not the high end K24 I bought -- that one had music already in it). I bought the Next Generation (NG) 614 because of the advertising about increased sustain, which was something I longed for in my previous 614. I also loved that the Wing inlays were now made of abalone instead of ivoroid. Let me tell you, this NG is a stunning guitar. However, the sound of my 2020 614 was light-years more amazing than this. My previous one was harmonically complex with harmonics permeating through three room on the 5th, 7th, and 12th frets, but this is not. I also don't notice any difference in sustain with the NG as I had hoped, and, even more, the sound is really just quite ordinary. I really wish this sounded as good as it looks.

One thing worth exploring is the strings. Your 2020 614ce would have come with Elixir strings, while our newer guitars use D’Addario XS strings. You may find that you prefer the sound and feel of Elixirs, so trying a set could be worthwhile. A few minor setup adjustments can also make a difference.

When ”Spot on!” is the correct answer!
I did take a battle with different Taylor models (217, 414 and some more I dont remember) and to me this one has got the most balanced sound combined with extra power and superb playability. There are other models with higher mids and lower mids. I was in two different guitarshops. Only the last one did have this model on the wall (both did have guitars in the same price range)

Next generation 614ce is the most beautiful sounding guitar I’ve ever heard
The sound is astonishing. After a lot of searching and comparing, I decided I didn’t love the classic Martin dreadnought sound. The blending of the harmonics sounded too muddy, and the emphasis on bass and the scooped middle makes anything but strumming sound thin and overwhelmed. I was looking for the full volume and power, but I wanted a warmer brighter tone with clearer mid-range. I decided I liked the somewhat contradictory idea of the full power and resonance of adirondack spruce, but toning it down and mellowing it with a maple back and sides. Well, I couldn’t find that exact combination, but I finally found this guitar. I thought the torrefied Sitka spruce might go too far toward mellow. However, the big leaf maple is brighter than some softer Maples, and together the combination is gorgeous. The sound is still powerful with long sustaining harmonics, like a big dreadnought, but not quite so “reverb”-like noisy. The wood choices and the new scalloped v bracing deemphasize the low end and bring out a crisp and bright midrange. I just love the beautiful balanced sound. Also, the guitar is absolutely beautiful. For no good reason, I had a some desire to get a builder’s edition with beveled bits and fancy wraps and inlays. However, I wanted this guitar and I couldn’t wait another year for a builder’s edition. I am so glad. I decided I didn’t care about all that, and, even though the wrap is “only” imitation tortoise shell, the look is perfect. They could have chosen something fancier, but accents are for looks, and what counts is what looks good. The dark wrap on the blond maple was a perfect aesthetic choice. Everybody looks when I pull this guitar out. Also, the color is a little different than the pictures on the website show. Those pictures are a little too warm and saturated giving the guitar a slightly yellow/red (or call it orange) tinge. The actual finish is less saturated and leans more toward the browns and tans of natural wood. I think it’s about the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen (don’t tell my wife!)
