Overview

312ce 12-Fret (2019)

With its accommodating Grand Concert body, solid tonewoods and V-Class bracing, the 312ce 12-Fret offers pro-level performance regardless of your ability. Sapele and spruce team up for a rich tone profile characterized by woody lows, pristine highs and a meaty midrange. The 12-fret configuration makes this model even more appealing, with a slightly more relaxed feel for your fretting hand than you'll find with standard models. With V-Class bracing for extra power and sustain, a built-in ES2 pickup and a hardshell case, the 312ce 12-Fret strikes a balance between functionality, comfort and value.

Features

As a top wood, how does spruce sound vs. mahogany?

Taylor Guitars

Best answer Taylor Guitars

Aside from the difference in appearance, both wood types are extremely musical. Spruce is lighter in weight and has a broader dynamic range with pleasing overtones. A mahogany top is slightly denser and heavier which translates into a natural compression effect that smoothes out the attack, producing a more focused voice with fewer overtones.

Yes, it is available in a left-handed version.

Is this guitar available as a 14-fret model?

Taylor Guitars

Best answer Taylor Guitars

No, this is purpose-built for the neck and body to connect at the 12th fret. This makes for a compact feel that's rare in a 12-string guitar. The tone that results from the placement of the bridge in the guitar's lower bout is advantageous as well.

What makes a 12-fret guitar different?

Taylor Guitars

Best answer Taylor Guitars

A 12-fret guitar makes for a more compact playing framework. It combines the lap-friendly Grand Concert body with the slightly condensed fret spacing of the 24-7/8" scale length and the shorter 12-fret-to-the-neck construction. This makes a slinkier "handfeel" and easier fretting as you move up the fretboard. There's a surprising amount of tonal power and midrange warmth from the bridge sitting back a little farther on the lower bout. Also, the slotted headstock creates a more acute string angle over the nut. Because this puts a little more downward pressure on the nut, it'll feel a little more precise to your fretting hand. Notes won't bend quite as easily closer to the nut.

What's the difference between the Grand Concert and the Grand Auditorium?

Taylor Guitars

Best answer Taylor Guitars

The Grand Concert is considered a small-body guitar. It has an articulate voice with top-end chime and controlled overtones. Its intimate size is lap/couch friendly. The Grand Auditorium is a medium-size guitar and Taylor’s most versatile body shape. It's known for its balanced blend of warmth, clarity and sustain with a well-defined midrange.

Is this guitar solid wood?

Taylor Guitars

Best answer Taylor Guitars

Yes - just like all our US-made instruments, these are constructed from all-solid woods.

Oustanding instrument!

5 out of 5 stars Cecil S.

I bought the 312ce after buying a 352ce 12-string. Both of these 12 fret guitars are outstanding for both tone and playability. The build quality is outstanding, also. The attention to detail makes these guitars beautiful as well as outstanding in their sound.

I love the sound and feeling this guitar. Mids and highs are clear, very well balanced. Amazingly loud fro such a small body. Very comfortable to play. My new go to guitar.

Love this guitar

I’ve owned several Taylor, but never a 12 fret. This is a great sounding guitar and extremely loud and responsive. The strings were a bit high when I received it, but I got that taken care of.

Beautiful guitar. As an older player I restrung with a lighter gauge string and it accepted them with grace. It’s a perfect size for playing on the couch, wrapped
