How is the action/string height out of the box? Did you have to have it set up?
Our guitars are setup from the factory and should play great right out of the box.
What wood is the neck heel made of? It looks like maybe maple with a painted black back?
The neck is Mahogany. It has a black plastic heel cap.
What wood is the top of the headstock made of? It doesn't look like koa, ebony, or mahogany. Is it rosewood?

Not from the factory, no. Shopping online at sites like <a href="http://reverb.com" target="_blank">reverb.com</a> or <a href="http://sweetwater.com" target="_blank">sweetwater.com</a> will allow you to view each instrument on their site prior to purchasing it.

Sorry, the 1-11/16" nut width that comes standard is the only size available.

Sorry, they're not available with a cutaway.
Can I get a hardshell case for the GS Mini Bass?
No; at this point, the GS Mini Bass only fits the durable gig bag that comes with it.
Will this fit in an airplane overhead compartment?
The guitar will fit in most overhead compartments, but you may want to check with your airline for their rules about stowing something that's not the dimensions of a rollerboard-type suitcase. Also, if you do place it in the overhead compartment, you'll want to make sure other passengers don't place baggage on top of the guitar.
Can I use standard acoustic bass strings on the GS Mini-e Bass?
No; only the nylon-core strings created by Taylor and D'Addario specifically for the GS Mini Bass can be used. Standard acoustic bass strings will damage the guitar.

I'm in love with my Koa wood Taylor
I love this. It has great sound an plays so easy. Not to mention how beautiful it is. I have never been sorry for getting it. I have had mine for almost a year.

Just pick it up and play anywhere.
Love to pick it up iand just sit and play. The finish and look of the KOA is outstanding. Have to adjust to finger muscle memory issue after playing a 34" scale P bass. This is very short in comparison. The E string does not seem to resonate like the A,D & G strings do. Taylor sent me a replacement but no real improvment. Wish there were other string options including flat wound especially when using the electronics. Glad I bought it when I did, price went up $100 shortly after.

I liked it a lot, looks, sound and size, the E string sound a little weird to me, not bad just a little muted or something, the guy at the store told me was normal but I don’t know, sounds different from the other strings, I still like this bass a lot.
