Overview

T5z Classic

The hybrid hollowbody T5z Classic sits at the forefront of Taylor's innovation in guitar design, blending the fast feel and searing leads of an electric guitar with the warm sounds and natural overtones of an acoustic. Five-way switching controls three pickups for a truly malleable response, allowing you to shift from easy strumming to high-powered solo runs with the flick of a finger. The slender Taylor neck equipped with Jumbo frets makes for breezy bends and a relaxed feel, making this a perfect choice for everything from soloing in the limelight to recording song ideas at home. This model ships with a gig bag.

what are the basic differences between the T5z and the previous T5 Thinline 5 way guitars?

IAN W.

Best answer Josh M. Taylor Guitars staff

The original T5 features a slightly larger body, a 15" fretboard radius, and acoustic-style fretwire. Those design elements give it more of an acoustic-oriented feel and response.

The T5z was later introduced as a more electric-leaning version of the T5 platform. It features a smaller, more compact body, a 12" fretboard radius, and jumbo fretwire.

Sorry, no.

Does this come with stereo output for separating the acoustic sounds from the electric sounds?

Taylor Guitars

Best answer Taylor Guitars

No it doesn't. We're seeing more players prefer a mono output to an amp modeler/effects unit in which acoustic and electric stereo patches can be selected. For some players it means not needing to lug two amplifiers to a gig.

Best answer Taylor Guitars

Yes, all T5z models are available in left-handed at no extra charge.

Are the tone controls active?

Taylor Guitars

Best answer Taylor Guitars

Yes, the treble and bass controls are active, and they provide a diverse range of sounds so you can really sculpt your tones.

Fantastic Guitar

5 out of 5 stars Greg B.

What a great instrument!!! This guitar feels great and is wonderful to play unplugged and sing along without disturbing others in the home. I regularly play it quietly while watching tv with the family without being a bother.

When you plug it in it is just awesome! I play it through both an acoustic and electric amp (sometimes I use both simultaneously as well). For a gigging musician it is great to cover most any style. It is my main guitar and depending on my gigs I sometimes just take an acoustic or electric amp. Through just a quality acoustic amp I can still play nice leads in the different positions and get a little more bite.

It is great through a profiler and FRFR speakers as well for a light setup.

It is also fantastic for looping as I can lay down a track in acoustic, get a decent bass sound by cutting treble and cranking bass on the guitar and then go for electric tones.

I always carry an electric as my spare (which I rarely touch due to the weight, this guitar is very light and comfortable to play as I gig 3 hour shows normally) and wish I just had a second one of these (maybe someday). :)

Great hybrid guitar

5 out of 5 stars Jason

In a cover band, i prefer to have versatile instruments so I'm not switching between guitars a lot.
I wanted a hybrid guitar for some upcoming shows we're putting together where I will need to go between electric and acoustic all night. I previously owned an Acoustasonic but felt it wasn't great as an acoustic OR an electric, and was quite noisy and I didn't feel confident when playing it on stage because of the noise and it felt like I had to do a good bit of dialing in each sound (the settings for a decent acoustic were wildly different than the settings for a decent electric, and neither was great).

Purchased after playing several hybrid styles at the store and a/b-ing against offerings from PRS and Fender.

This guitar immediately felt great and responsive. The pickups in conjunction with the scale length and build quality translated to better sounding/feeling playing immediately. The acoustic sound in position 2 is fantastic, but all selections offer great sounds once you dial them in a little. The system is silent in all positions. More importantly, volume and tone settings, once to my liking, don't need adjusted across any of the pickup selections, making this very easy to play live.

The gig bag it comes with is also top notch - VERY rigid and satisfying with a nice plush lining and good looks.

Outstanding instrument with a wide range of very good sounds!

5 out of 5 stars Henning K.

I am a semi-professional musician from Germany. I bought my T5z sassafras about 6 months ago playing nearly daily. The guitar is exceptional excellent: extraordinary good handling, light-weight, usable for nearly any style: Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop, Folk… enabling a wide range of very good sounds. Except for Hard Rock or metal I prefer my electric solid body guitars and for real acoustic guitar playing I mostly use my 414ce or my K24ce Koa although the T5z also is a reasonable substitute especially on stage if it is not arranged as the leading instrument. The T5z also gives the opportunity to create it´s own typical, recognizable sound. I recommend this guitar especially for all guitarists who dońt want to confine themselves to one special sound, e.g. their personal Les-Paul or Strat-Sound. Extraordinary!

T5z Hybrid.

4 out of 5 stars Ken H.

The instrument is high quality, drawing a lot of complimentary comments from my Musician friends. However, it does have a propensity to easily go out of tune, and every time I pick it up it involves several minutes with a clip-on Tuner, and at other times during a Rehearsal or Gig.
I am seriously reconsidering ownership, which is a shame as it 'handles' beautifully, sits nice, and has an outstandingly comfortable neck contour, not to mention an amazing range of tones.

flexible and reliable instrument

4 out of 5 stars Paolo M.

This guitar is very flexible and reliable, offers a wide range of sounds and can be used both for acoustic and electric purposes. Electronic is reliable and the signal is clean. Fretboard is veri confortable and precise. The height of the frets is a bit too much for me, but matter of personal taste.

What a guitar!

5 out of 5 stars Anthony F.

Absolutely love it. It’s fabulous to play, and is great for live performance where you need to combine an acoustic sound with a lead guitar sound. Works so well with a looper in this way - record a backing, then play lead over it. Just brilliant..
